I actually contacted the EBay buyer of this watch and was fortunate enough to catch him prior to releasing his money from escrow on the purchase. I won’t be surprised at all if we don’t see him in the forum. The following is an email I sent him after he contacted me telling him “Buyer Beware”.

************************************************** *******************************

Dear guthrum878:

The fakes are getting so good that even jewelers have a difficult time spotting one, unless they’re a Rolex dealer and familiar enough with the watch to know what to look for, and even then they need to open it up and thoroughly examine the movement.

There are many resources available to educate folks on what to look for and probably the best one is a book called the “Rolex Report” written by John E. Brozek that goes into great detail. Unfortunately counterfeiters have access to these same resources.

Many Rolex counterfeiters online describe their products features in a list that rebuttals all the issues one would want to look for in a fake. This site is a perfect example of that. (See www.globalreplica.com/replica-rolex-submariner-steel-and-gold.php)

I was alerted to your purchase by folks discussing fakes in a Rolex forum online, where we all agreed that what you bought was a knockoff. Everything discussed in this book pointed to it not only in the pictures, but the wording in the EBay listing as well.

With entire books are written on this subject I obviously can’t go into that detail here, but you can buy the “Rolex Report” at (See www.amazon.com/gp/product/0972313303 or www.qualitytyme.net. The "Rolex Forum" is at www.rolexforums.com.

You can go into the actual post in the "Rolex Forum" and see what’s said concerning your purchase at www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=33522. The biggest give away is there’s no model 116610 and a real model 16610 is stainless steel with a black dial.

Other telltale signs in the seller’s EBay listing are: no box or papers, very fuzzy pictures, seller has only two previous listings; he also says “Please do not send messages saying my watch is a fake”, so obviously knowledgeable Rolex owners see the scam.

As you familiarize yourself with Rolex watches you’ll be able to spot finer details. If you read www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=33813 you’ll see that I have difficulty sometimes with things as insignificant as minute as markers being a hair too long.

I’m sure you’ve heard that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably isn’t and the "Rolex Forum" is a great resource for getting help on where to buy a legitimate original that is priced in a range that works for you. I hope this information helps!

Sincerely,

mb300se65 (aka Jerry)
