Rolex 16550 Exp II non Rail Dial Cream Face
Hello fellow watch fans.
I am new to this site and have a Rolex Explorer II non Rail Dial Cream Face that I purchased in 1987. I understand from a bit of research that these may be a bit collectible as I have already had an offer to purchase it for obviously much more than I bought it for back then. I have the box, paperwork, extra links the whole nine yards. I have two questions. Was it truly a "goof" by Rolex to let this watch go out the door? Are they highly collectible? Serial Number is: R16550A12B7836 I have seen these online for 18k in Europe. I have a solid offer on it but need to know more about it. Any help appreciated - I hope this is posted in the right area - don't mean to offend. Thanks. RTY |

These are moderately interesting to collectors, but certainly not "highly collectible." I have never heard of anyone achieving a price close to $18,000 for one of these; also, for true collectors, only the "rail" version is accepted. I would think the top would be around $8,000 for one like you describe.

i will mildly disagree here michael...the T swiss t-25t version (NOT swiss <25t version) that arthur spent so long researching and establishing i think has its own following, is actually probably rarer , and in fact has some nice colour tones to it , i wouldd still be happy to own one . and i know of several full box and paper sets with the 12 code on that have traded as high as $18k in the european retail scene in the past , though i agree they are a fair bit off that point those days since so many ''new'' cream dials began appearing and softened the market. |

Very helpful. Thanks. I have an offer of 10k for it now complete. But it's my baby. 27 years on my wrist. Want to make sure if I part with it and it is rare - I get what I should. Hence me entering this forum to talk to experts, collectors, etc.

Why the haste in getting rid of it?? You have owned it for quite some time, and more often than not........Many in your situation end-up regretting such a sale in the future.

I have owned a rail cream since 87 and have no intention of selling it :-) They are great to wear & unless you need the cash for a better purpose, keep it. As to offer on a non rail imho it is a fair offer but 13-14 is a proper value if in nice condition. M
