Two 1665 questions...
Hey guys, being new to the vintage world, I was hoping I could get some info for my "new to me" 1665.
1. The 585 end link on the 12:00-side is not "tight" - it moves up and down and I am afraid it is either rubbing into the metal between the lugs or will scrape the bezel when I push it down to turn it. Is there a way to tighten this end piece? Does it need to be re-bent in some way? The 6:00-side is solid and does not move. 2. Is this a fat font insert? I am getting differing opinions and my eyes are not well trained enough to tell! Thanks for the help, I love TRF!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For comparison purposes, here is my 5.7mil rail dial with the original bezel insert. It was missing a pip and had a new one installed by Rikki

It does appear to be a fat font insert. A nice one. The patina on your SD I'd stunning. Sorry I can't help with the end link. Congrats on that beauty!

Gorgeous 'rail' 1665 - congrats! I wouldn't worry about the end-link - the 'rattle' is common. As long as it's secure and the spring-bars are in good shape (and Rolex), it should be fine.
Insert looks good to me - not especially fat, but appears original, with a great patinated pearl. |

So the MK 1 and MK 2 inserts are fatter, but typically were found in earlier watches. Yours is a nice MK3 or maybe 4.
It's hard to see here, but note the inside of the 4. It comes to a "point" on the mk2... It's a little more fat. Overall, I would still call your insert a "fat to medium" font, as it's much thicker than the later "era" inserts. |

Mine for comparison. Worn daily for the last 35 years and no patina.
