Icon19 Pam 510 or Pam 422 same price - which one would you pick.

Hello. I have a chance to pick up a new panerai for my 30th birthday.
I was going to pull the trigger on a new 510, but my AD just took in a trade on a pam00422, and I can grab it for the same cost as the 510.

422 is complete with triple box( inner black box a bit banged up) and war entry dated 4/14

What would you do?

I'm 6ft 2in, and a 7.75in wrist, so 47mm should be ok.

I like the 8 day power reserve, but I like the 1950s case.

Any advise would be good.

You know, I was in the same boat. I was looking at entry level 8 day models, but I just cannot get past the no power reserve indicator. 8 days is cool, but I do not always want to be wondering how much reserve I have left. I looked at a 233, and while a nice watch, I have no use for a GMT function, and I absolutely love the way gold hands look on the dark watch face and contrast with a polished SS case. The perfect amount of flash.

So, with all that in mind I just bought a BNIB 423 and will have it tomorrow. I like the 3 day movement, and the 72 hour power reserve indicator on the dial. I cross shopped the 422 as well, and I prefer the power reserve indicator of the 423 over the rear indicator of the 422, but at least they both have one, even if they are in different locations.

422!

I do like the 510, but the 422 is more bang for your buck. As long as you can pull off the 47mm case.

Wow...a 422 for the price of a 510? I'd be searching couch cushions or whatever I had to do in order to pull the trigger on that.

Ya. So less than one day with the 422, I think I am returning it.

+25 within 4 hours of setting it to atomic clock.

This is leaving a very bad taste in my mouth.

Don't really feel like sending it back to the factory, issues right out of the box scare me. I am a quality assurance engineer by trade ( major healthcare and energy companies), do I know stuff happens ( I wouldn't have a job if it didn't), but I also know where there is one problem, there is usually another.

Sorry to hear.
Is it running consistently fast or erratically? If it's erratic then it could be magnetised.
If the AD took it as a trade-in I would hope they checked the watch for any issues. You have a warranty, so I suppose the next step is back with the AD.
Hopefully a simple de-magnetise &/or regulation will sort it out.

Which AD in New York? Would be nice to know so nobody else buys the watch you return, assuming they don't do the right thing and have it corrected...
