Rolex Sea Dweller 1665 (Great White)
Just hoping for some advice, I have a 1981 Sea Dweller known as a "Great White". I have had it for around 20 years and worn it every day. It has all the docs/ paperwork pamphlets etc. Its been to several services and been a great watch. At the moment the pearl is chipped and I have just taken a chunk out of the face unfortunately so its going to have to go back to Rolex. I was wondering what face I ask for to keep the watch original? Also with the prices rocketing on this model I am tempted to sell and just buy a modern sub mariner, I have heard of prices over £10,000 being mentioned for this model. Overall it would be great to get some thoughts from anyone who is knowledgeable on these watches so I can make a balanced decision. Thanks

The 1665 is indeed a great classic piece. Congrats on owning on!
I think a picture would help. A 'chuck out of the face' is too vague in my opinion. |

After 20 years..keep it! You'll miss it too much if you sell. You could "temporarily retire " it though and get a ND Sub to see how it feels in the meantime..

What do you mean you took a "chunk out of the face?" You damaged the dial? Was there some type of accident (severe knock) or moisture damage? Please post photos. If the dial is indeed damaged beyond repair, you'll get a luminova replacement dial from RSC, or you could try to source a correct tritium dial (pricey). In any event, I'd suggest repairing and keeping. It's been a loyal timepiece for 20 years, why not keep it going?

Sounds like a very nice watch - think hard before you sell it though. Much harder to replace it than to source a modern sports!

10,000 sterling is wishful thinking.
