Some Omega Speedmaster Advice?

Whats up everyone?

Im trying to help a friend pick up a watch for the 1500-2500$ range. I told him the best brand name watch I can think of for that price is going to be a Omega Speedmaster. If anyone can think of a better watch feel free to tell me. Anyways, some questions I have are

-What reference # speedmaster should I go for?
-How much should I pay for that reference?
-How reliable is it?
-What must the watch come with?

The watch must have a steel bracelet. No straps.

I am a total noob when it comes to Omegas so please forgive my stupidity in this subject.

Thanks everyone

My advice: Buy any speedy pro with a hesalite crystal and solid back. Prices vary depending on age and condition. Kringkily is a great guy to buy from. Avoid the speedy reduced and the 9300 series.

Get the original, hesalite crystal, manual wind, and solid back. Stay away from the autos, and reduced (don't mean to offend anyone!!!). The original Speedmaster Pro and Rolex Daytona are the two most ionic chronos made.

The 3570.50 is a GREAT choice in that range. You can find them on this forum for around $2500 in nice condition. It will come with the standard steel bracelet, but I'd budget a little extra for a nice chocolate brown gator strap to dress it up.

There are other models available, but the 3570 is the one to get.

bump up the budget a little bit and go for a used but reasonably good condition Speedy Pro, you can't go wrong with the Moonwatch

I picked up this reference after looking at moon watches for the past couple of months. To be honest, I really tried to like the moon watch but could never pull the trigger. I love the history and all the stories around the moon watch but the design just leaves me cold. This came up last week, I had never seen this reference before and it just sang to me. Purchased it after thinking about it for about half a day, wondering if someone was going to jump it, but now have it. It is really beautiful - more so in person, this picture is a little over processed. In real life the colors are richer. It wears wonderful (My other watch is a 42mm Polar Explorer 2) You will also save about $1,000 over the moon watch. People will say - it is too small. Remember - it is the same size as a Daytona. This is an Omega Speedmaster Day-Date -- Ref 3520.53.

What does " Reduced" mean? By the way thanks so much everyone for the advice. My friend decided to go for a Baume Mercier but now I am going to look at at 3570.50 for myself.

The speedy reduced is a mid size speed master.

The reduced models come with an automatic movement, which is not nearly as reliable or regarded as the manual wind 1861. The 3570.50 is the watch to get unless you want something more vintage.

You can also look at the 3572.50, which is basically identical to the 3570, but has a display caseback. It costs a little more and purists may say its not a true moonwatch, but it's literally indistinguishable from the 3570 on you wrist and gives you a look at the historically beautiful movement.

I generally find display backs to be a little gimmicky, but I would go with the 3572 if it will be your only luxury watch with a visible movement. It's nice to look at the movement occasionally and the non-watch enthusiast will be more impressed.

Such a great watch

I'll throw a suggestion to consider a nice original mark II speedmaster. This has the chunkier case (designed to better handle EVA for NASA but never used in space) and they have the same 861 movement and are not very common.

They recently re-issued it with date added but I prefer the original...
