Greetings from North Alabama
Hello. My name is David and I live in Athens, AL. I'm an anesthesiologist, with a wife and two boys (3 and 6). I live on a golf course, so that's my main hobby. I've always liked watches, but I've never had the money. I'm a few years out of residency now, and things are looking good. It will probably be another two years until I own my first Rolex. Gotta get the house paid off first.
I joined this forum so I could learn about Rolexes. I've always enjoyed collecting and trading stuff, and the internet has really made trading stuff like watches very easy. I'm a little nervous about fakes, so I figured I'd hang out on this website a while to learn the finer details. I don't even own an automatic watch right now. I think the most I've ever paid for a watch is $50. Right now I'm on the hunt for an Omega Seamaster GMT in excellent condition for around $1500. I would love to have a Sub LV now,but that will have to wait. Here are a few questions I have: 1. Are Omega fakes as common as Rolex fakes? How careful do I need to be picking up a used seamaster GMT? 2. If the Sub LV watch is to commemorate an anniversary, why do they keep making it? Shouldn't they just make it one year and then stop production? Happy to be a new member. david |

Welcome to TRF, David!
1) I have no clue as to what the ratio of counterfeit Rolex contra fake Omega watches is. All I can suggest is to buy from an AD only to get peace of mind and full benefit of the warranty! If you want to buy a preowned Omega or Rolex - or from a "Grey Dealer" - you're always welcome to post a thread about the watch in question in the "WatchOut" Section with pics and links to seller site BEFORE paying for the watch in order to get our opinions. Nice safety net, isn't it? 2) Well, I would tend to agree with you. But the "LV" - although it's an anniversary Sub Date - actually never was a "Limited Edition". It's been part of the Rolex range for 8+ years now and I can't see it go anytime soon. Only Rolex knows, though, as usual. Enjoy your stay here and have lots of fun!

Dave,
Welcome aboard to The Rolex Forums. I am still somewhat of a 'Newbie'. There are some forum members here with a vast amount of Rolex experience and the like. The members here are truely great and you could not find another watch forum that is better than this one. No, I don't have any shares in this forum. Dave, in all seriousness it's a great forum. Welcome to TRF. You'll learn a lot here about Rolex watches. I read numerous posts on this site before buying my Rolex. I was going to purchase online but decided not to after reading some of the horror stories of all the fake watches being sold as real. I wasn't enough of an expert to go that route and decided to buy mine through an AD. I'm glad I did.

Hey David, Welcome.
Sadly there are Omega fakes out there. Especially in the vintage arena. The LV was designed as a watch to "commemorate 50 years of the Submariner". It was never designed as a limited edition however; far fewer are made than it's black insert cousin. |

Welcome David to TRF. I hope you get a nice Rolex to show off soon. I'm tired of seeing the same old watches lately (Mine included). We need new blood. Now off you go to buy one and post it here first. We are more than happy to spend other people's money.

The Omega Seamaster GMT is an awesome watch, but you will have to be very lucky to find one for $1,500.
Welcome to you folk from Alabami (as you may say ), and I hope you will enjoy and participate on these forums

Hello David. I guess being from north Alabama is different from south Alabama.. I go to Clanton often to fish on Lake Mitchell.. Another member, Lisa, has a husband who is in the same line of work. You guys should have some interesting conversations. Hope you get your Rolex soon.

Welcome David! Please buy your watch from an Authorized Dealer. Not only will you be positive it is authentic, you will be sure to get first rate service as well as good deals and notices on later Rolexes that they receive. Paying full MSRP is the start of a very positive relationship, you shall see!
Being an anesthesiologist I would recommend that you but a Pepsi GMT II. Seems the demand is increasing and I feel that future demand will show it to be today's "sleeper." |

Hello and Welcome David. I just bought the Sub LV. None of the paperwork that comes with the watch refers to it as an anniversary model anymore. In fact, the AD I bought it from just referred to it as a "LV." Seems like it might be around for awhile. I bought it because I love the green maxi bezel!! It's a great watch and by far the most accurate I have ever owned...
Good luck with your quest!!!! |
