The 36mm DJ is a superb, gorgeous, very underrated watch in today's mindset. Which is a shame... IMO.

If the large watch trend continues, sales may fall for 36mm men's models, but they will not be discontinued

Rolex screwed up their sizing. The 39mm's are poorly proportioned watches. Taking into consideration dial size and case dimensions a modern 39mm Rolex wears proportionate to a subC. I like the way the subC wears...for a SPORT WATCH. Meanwhile the 36mm is a touch small for a midsize watch for the average wrist by today's standards.

I couldn't agree more. I was torn last summer between the two models and whilst I think that the proportions of the DJ are spot on, it's just too small. And I only have a 6.75 wrist (although shape affects look more). I have attached two pictures of both DJ's in my wrist.

I just don't understand why people talk about this 'big watch fad'. 41mm is not an oversized piece!

I see 43/44mm + as 'large'. 40/41 is typical is 'normal' size watches for his day and age, not the current 'trend'.

I think they will keep the DJ line up as 36mm and 41mm.

I actually think the DJ looks perfect on your wrist. Not a fan of that gigantic bezel on the DJ2

36mm is a sweet spot for many and if they pulled the line it would leave a huge void!!!

You're absolutely right about things being scaled up, but let's not forget the ladies here.

Now, I don't want to turn this into a debate about whether or not the 36mm should become a ladies watch, that's not what this is about. But the fact is, everything IS getting scaled up. Including the release of the ladies 28mm.

My point being that whether it's for men or women or both, there will always be a place for a 36mm line up.

Hopefully they discontinue the dd36 and the big watch is here to stay, and they get even bigger. And I also hope that the rg black mop with diamond dial 36mm DD with president bracelet tanks in value... Like under $10k.

I've got small wrists so this would be a dream come true for me.

Haha thanks.

Don't get me wrong, I think the proportions on the 36mm are just perfect, but the case size itself on the 41mm is just better on my wrist.

The bezel is clearly wider on the 41mm however when you see it in daylight it just gleams!! Is absolutely amazing.

49 mm??? Yikes. Rolex has made the DJ in 36mm since the 1930's (or 40's), I don't anticipate that change ever

36mm vintage remains very hot in the asian market: it's the right size for so many people on earth. 25% of the human race is Chinese. Not all Chinese are willing to wear a 42mm, it sometimes looks like a caricature. I think the 36mm will likely stay, the question is only what percentage of production, development, etc. are dedicated to it.

You bring up some really good points. It is kind of crazy that there are dressier models that are now larger than sport models. 41mm DJ and 40mm Subs, etc. I'm swapping my 39mm Explorer for a 42mm Explorer 2 at the moment. I think that's as big as I'd go. It is funny how they sell a lot of 41mm Date-Justs, but many people feel the Explorer 2 is too big.
