5396 purchase in dubai - wise move?
Hello all, - just joined the forum having Bought my new Rolex Sub date a couple of months ago in Malta from the AD there,
I'm very happy with it, but now decided a dress up watch is needed- I guess this is how the watch bug starts ..!) Visited a PP Dealer in Dubai with the intention of looking only at a Calatrava, but was blown clean away with a Annual calendar 5036G-11. Anyone consider it too complicated for a dress watch ? It would clearly be significant investment and hopefully as a thing of true beauty the watch will be a keeper: so does anyone here have any Dubai buying experience or sage advice? This dealer is in the main Mall in Dubai and not in an airport outlet. Steve Malta |

I wear a 5039 for dress. Never had anyone make rude remarks. Will the 36 fit beneath your cuff?

If it's a 5396 with Breguet fantastic. It's 5036 on bracelet then not so keen

It is a 5396 G -011 White gold on a black strap with a deployment clasp.
I guess PP would honor any warranty world wide?, - just never bought anything significant cost wise in Dubai before so was wondering about any TRF member experiences. Steve |

Let's see a pic of the model you are thinking? The 5396 is available in two metals and with stick markers or like Karl said Bregeut numerals which I personally prefer

Yes you mentioned 5036 in the OP which is confusing. Dubai is expensive!

buying is dubai is safe and PP would honour the warranty anywhere. assuming your buying from the PP boutique at Dubai Mall. you're fine.
buying from dubai is not really more expensive than buying from London in my experience but you can get VAT (tax back) on a london purchase if you don't live in the EU and export the watch after buying in London so that makes it cheaper than dubai but thats assuming PP London have the same watch and you're not going to have to fly there just for that. |

Here is the UK price list pre increase at £31 550 plus price increase = £ 34 705 less VAT back = £28920. Certain AD will ship net if VAT. You just pay the duty of you can't collect. I think this proves its more expensive in Dubai.

The annual calendar is a nice complication to have. It can be quite useful for many people wearing the wear on a regular basis. Patek Philippe received a patent for the AC, although they released it only 20 years ago.
I think the 5396 is very elegant and will make a nice dress watch. If you are not in a rush and have the opportunity to try out other ACs, that is what I would recommend. After comparing several models, you decide you still like the 5396, then you should compare prices. |
