Buying a DeepSea

Hi Forumers,
First time poster, great board, much more active than other forums.
I am about to buy a DS, and am wondering if any owners have comments that may interest me. My wrist is 7.5 so the watch is big on it, but having a ROO (safari) has prepared me for that. It is the height that I am wondering about, any trouble? I shall not wear it when I am wearing a long sleeve shirt.
I am leaning very much toward the blue/black dial, I was fairly ambivalent to begin with but it has really grown on me. On the resale market (just in case I have second thoughts) it seems as though it holds its value very well, of course that may not be long term - remembering the first green bezel subs?
Any input would be very welcome.

The DS is a big watch and certainly no lightweight. I'm sure you have already tried one on and realised that, but if you haven't please do before you pull the trigger !!
All that said its a beautiful watch and will get noticed. My only advice is to make sure you get the strap adjusted right. Because of its weight I would suggest you will have to have it quite tight, as due to its weight if you wear the watch lose the shift in weight as you move your wrist causes the watch to slop around, which I find annoying and will end almost certainly end up with the watch picking up damage and due to its weight whatever it hits as well probably :-)

I am probably biased but the D blue is the best looking and the way light hits the dial and makes its look all sorts of different colours is great.

I have a 7.5" wrist and I don't find it to big, but I do like bigger watches anyway. I have 40mm - 45.5mm.

Have you sourced one already, you going for new or pre owned, AD or third party sales ???

When I search for the price of Rolex DeepSea, that was almost impossible to find and most of the shops sell this model at full price or even more. Then I decide to buy normal deepsea which is just cheaper and very easy to find.

Your wrist is perfectly fine for the Deep Sea but definitely try it on.

I have a 7.25" wrist and I tried the DS on several times before pulling the trigger. My observations from having worn this for a little over 3 weeks are as follows:

1. Sizing is key. I found that simply removing the dive extension was enough to make it a perfect fit. Not too tight, not too loose that it moves about on my wrist.
2. The watch is heavy, in a good way.
3. The case height takes getting used to, however I've had no issue with fitting under cuffs.
4. I highly recommend the D Blue, the dial is what makes this watch.
5. The dome crystal is ultra cool and I love how it distorts light.
6. The glidelock clasp on the DSSD is the ultimate and makes this piece very wearable.

Do try, personally no problems with height, sizing or weight. Marvellous piece of engineering.

I sold mine some weeks ago cause of the weight, its not for everyday, i have now the sd 4000 and is absolutely perfect.

I actually loved the DSSD far more than I ever thought I would. It took 3 trips to the AD looking at different pieces before I decided to pick one up. It's hard to explain, but if you aren't planning on wearing it with dress shirts as mentioned then the height really shouldn't be a problem.

I found it felt great to wear it in shorts and a t-shirt and most everyday attire. The heft did surprise me as it does feel like wearing a tank on your wrist but.... the weight is kind of pleasant in a "I feel like I'm wearing a quality watch" kind of way. It's just such a cool watch

As others mentioned, try it on, I have the same wrist size, but i have a flat wrist, watch sits great and when sized right (I keep my diver extension on) is comfortable. The D-bue is the reference to get!

I'm new to the forum. I waited six long months for my Deep Blue. It's worth the wait. It's my first Rolex. Just make sure your bezel lines up at the 12:00 marker. Some ceramic bezels have been coming out not lining up. It has nothing to do with function just looks better lined up. I sent mine to Rolex NY Service Center. It took them one month to adjust the bezel. For my troubles they gave me a cleaning cloth. This was brand new from an AD. I just did not notice until I read about it. It's still one bad ass watch!

A little unpleasant to see such a high quality (and price) brand offer watches with unaligned bezels.. These things happen in the below 200-300$ range or so... But hey, it could have been worse...

My wrist is only 6.5 inches at its max, and my new D-Blue feels fine
(Actually more comfortable than my previous Smurf).
My wrist is kinda flat, so that helps.
This really is one of my favorite Rolexes at any price.

I have a non-flat 6.25" wrist and I think it fits me just fine.
