Icon12 Hello from a ew Rolex owner/forum member

Hi all,

Greetings from the east ! Just wanted to say Hi to all of you and have a question.

I am a proud new owner of my first Rolex and it comes at a very special occasion. I became father for thr first time on 24th of last month Child is a she. I always wanted a baby girl and I am so happy.

So what better then celebrate the occasion by buying a nice watch which I should be able to pass to her one day ! I have owned Omega and tag Heuer's and while I looked into Omega, TH, Beitling, IWC etc and liked many of their model, I felt thei occassion simply deserves the best. so choosing the brand was easy. I like Rolex explorer and with white dial I should go well on female hand as well. Looked into GMT master, Yatch master too. But then I found one of my collegue wearing GMT master.

Hmmm, well I want something unique, something more special. And if I see GMT master around already I dont want it (Just personal view, no offence to anyone )

so finally, I settled down on a Daytona. Difficult to find and not very common. Expensive but I can still manage. So its a Black dial SS 116520 M series 2008 Model Daytona

I havent owned a lot of top notch watches but one does not need to be a professional reviewer to comment on this watch. Finish and details are just awesome. Looks - nothing short of supercool. Weight is just about right.

Unfortunately Omega and TH are just sitting in shelf now ...

I have a question. I tried measuring the accuracy of this watch by starting the chronometer in sych with my computer watch at second level. I find a difference of several seconds in few hours. Not sure if my watch gets slower or faster but it clearly gets out of sync.

So what is the generally accpetable accuracy of this watch ? can someone please enlighten me. I dont want to worry for nothing but at the same time want to make sure this piece is working fine.

Cheers :)

Welcome, always great to have members from Japan

Your Daytona should have a daily accuracy of not more than +4 seconds and/or lose not more than 6 seconds in 1 day (I.E. +4 to -6 seconds per day).

If it is less than 2 years old from new, or 1 year or less from Rolex service you can take your Daytona to a Rolex Service Centre and they should be able to perform a regulation on your watch within a matter of minutes or a couple of hours.

There is a big Rolex Service Centre in Tokyo

Congrats on the new baby girl too.

Congratulations on being a first time father! My first was a baby girl and she is still my baby even though she is 18 years old and happens to be out with her boyfriend now!

As far as the accuracy of your watch goes, I use http://time.gov/ and http://accurist123.com/to synchronize my watch, but I'm sure there is a comparable Japanese website out there. If you are not happy with your Daytona's accuracy after few months, take it in to be regulated.

Thank you for the wishes guy.

I dont have the customary wrist shot right now but will post soon. meanwhile I am posting a few shots of my daughter taken on day 2 and day 3. By the way I am not japanese, so english sites are better for me :)

Question. Is +4 sec/-6 sec company spec or is it generanally accepted spec. My watch is brand new, purchased by paying extra as daytona's are hard to find. Seems like my watch has gained more then a minute in last 6 hours ! I definitely need to get it caliberated I guess.

X2

I misread the thread title initially, I thought it read "Hello from an EWE Rolex owner/forum member" and thought you hail from Australia too.

Welcome to TRF

Welcome to the forum..

Congratulations on the new daughter and the new Daytona.

Generally speaking your computer is not a good source to check your watch by.. Rolex standards are closer than COSC specs. Rolex shoots for -1/+5 to ensure their watches actually meet the -4/+6 certification standard.

Ensure your watch is fully wound and set it to a reliable time standard. Then check it again by the same standard and divide by the number of days to get a daily average.

I hope it doesn't stay off by as much as you say but taking it in without verifying what it is actually doing, and not waiting until the oils have worked through and settled in may be premature..
