14060 massive bevels
Hi all,
Been a lurker for a while, and I've finally made it to register an account here. Tremendous forum with tons of knowledge. I noticed this on my 14060M, which I bought pre owned, that the chamfers are quite accentuated, more so than I've seen on others. At the same time the case has a a finish both on the polished and brushed parts that to my eye looks like factory-finish. My question is, has it been previously polished would you say, if you take a look at the pictures attached? Would you consider it "over-polished"? I've come across this expression quite a few times when reading about especially Rolex and Tudor watches. Any input is gladly appreciated. |

Not certain; it seems to me there is some difference in the lug widths. I can't tell if it is perspective or real. If so than polished. Top down picture would help to determine this. BTW, it's a great looking Sub!!!!

The Sub cases of that era have un even lugs from the factory. Lugs on the crown side are thinner. Looks either unpolished or lightly polished. Usually when over-polished the ends of the spring bars get really close to the edge of the hole. This one looks pretty good to me. Love those chamfers. Wish Rolex would go back to them.

On sport models, the crown side lugs are fractionally smaller from the factory. |

Thank you for the great input.
Could it be that these chamfers are original, as they are larger than I've seen on 14060's sold as NOS? I've also read about the Bexley chamfers. Perhaps I'm obsessing, but I'm curious to know if the expertise in here consider it (over)polished or not. Thanks again. |

100% pure awesome. I wish Rolex went back to chamfering the lugs. Part of my big draw to Tudor.

What letter does the serial begin with?
ABC watchwerks (pre split off of some employees to LA Watch co) re cut the chamfers to factory spec on my 11610 Y serial sub. These chamfers are certainly smaller than say a 5513 or 1680. They look like yours...maybe slight smaller. |

I have a 'K' 14060M from around 2001 and the lugs look about the same.
And different RHS to LHS as they should be.

I think a lot of people are misreading what he means by bevel/chamfer.
I see your question bc they do look prominent compared to Tools or Speeds but the watch looks awesome. |

The profile curve on the crown side is perfect, It is unpolished from what I can make out. Prestine example

fascinating, this was exactly what I was trying to find out. Ive been looking at 14060Ms for awhile and although I did buy one recently, I did notice some variation in the lugs. Thanks for the info!

The one below is mine. Notice the broader chamfer/bevel on my watch. The reason I started the thread is that My chamfers are noticeably broader, which made me wonder if it has been polished previously, and if so if it was considered over polished. Much appreciate everyone's input. Excellent forum |

Rolex UK (London) returned mine with pronounced beveled edges like the OP. The 7 o'clock lug is also slightly thinner than the 5 o'clock lug as a result of the increased bevelling. Before, in its original condition from new, there was only a subtle slight chamfer.
So I'd say maybe the OP watch was as a result of a Rolex service, as this was exactly what they did with my watch. Is it considered 'overpolished' if it was Rolex themselves that did it? Having said that I personally like the increased bevelling. ^you can see how wider the edges are, just like in the OP's... see how the 7 o'clock lug bevel is slightly flared at the bottom... and results in it being slightly thinner than the 5 o'clock side... Is that good or bad? |
