I'm getting the shakes!

Two days without my SD and I'm having major withdrawal symptoms, albeit attenuated by the DateJust. It's still not the same, though - the DJ lacks the comforting heft of the SD.

The good news is that RSC Melbourne called me this afternoon and said that my baby will be back on my wrist on Friday, with the extra time taken to make sure they got the regulation right this time.

No idea, John. Considering that the work that they're doing involves the rotor, I'd hope that they'd service the movement, but all I know for sure is that they're going to fix the rotor, regulate and pressure test. I'll find out what they've done on Friday.

I know they do the polish as a normal function of a regular service. Just wondered.

If the AD's were smart, they would give out loaners, get you hooked on a different watch, then you'd be jonesing for the one you have to give back upon the return of your own watch.

Wempe gave me a 'loan' watch when I took my Panerai in for a service - they don't ask for it back, it's 'with compliments', which is a nice touch

Oh, and that quartz POS sold for £75 on ebay, which was nice!

Good news, James...just wondering if they can get that deep gash out of the case when it fell on the tiles. Let us know how it works out after you get it back. Post some pics too.

Thanks - JJ

James, I would point out the gash & ask them "what did you do to my watch?"
It's worth a try.

Hey James,
When you get your SD back and you are happy with what they have done, pls let me know their address. Just for my records in case I need a service/polish etc. There isn't anyone up here in banana land.

BTW I am thinking of trading for an SD.... any ideas?

PM me if you like

Steve

WOOHOO! I got my SD fixed and I'm getting my SD fix!

The rotor's fixed and running silently. They also regulated and tested it over 48 hours, and I saw the timing printout that showed that it was running steadily at between 0 and +1. Anyway, the real proof's in the wearing, so we'll see how we go over the next few weeks.

Apart from the above, though, it seems like they didn't do anything else. No polishing of the case or any other signs of servicing, although I assume that pressure testing is SOP once they open the case.

Steve, I am happy with RSC Melbourne's work even though they didn't throw in any extra goodies - they're at 70 Collins Street, Melbourne 3000. Dunno if I can help you vis-a-vis SD acquisition - my baby's definitely a keeper!

I got my SD (1665) from Japan.
I took it to Rolex Melbourne to get it timed and produced the Japanese Service Receipt to show it was within 12 months.
1 day later Rolex Melbourne called me and said that they had some issues with my SD (it didn't look like it had been serviced properly to Rolex specifications).
Rolex Melbourne asked me to send them a fax of my Japanese Service Receipt, which I did.
Rolex Melbourne came back and said that they would like to service my SD (at no cost). I guess they weren't happy with the way the movement was lubricated and/or operating.
3 weeks later I got my SD back - like new.
Initially after service the watch was +1 second per day. Now 1+ years later my SD is running +/- zero seconds per day after 2 weeks.... You've gotta love that!!!!
James, I would expect Rolex to have checked out your whole watch and done everything that was necessary to ensure it is in top running order! :0)

Glad to hear the SD is back and in silent running mode. Let's see some pics of the gash.

Oh, and thanks for the modem burner.

My DSL service has been on the blink for a week - I'm running at between 7K and 35K and if you think that isn't frustrating - I'm about ready to tear my hair out.

My ISP is sending someone out to check the inside junction box, but the best time they could give me is next Thursday, between 8 - 12. Fortunately, I convinced Arleen to stay home that day so she can let them in the house. Hopefully, I'll be back up and running at full speed by next weekend.

That's why I haven't been on line much at night and on the weekend lately. I can't wait around for the downloads.
