Panama Canal Sub for Sale

Came across this by chance.
It is being auctioned by Antiquorum in New York on the 16th October.
1999 made 16610 Submariner Date, Number 38 of only 75.
The estimate is $20-$30,000 .

I have never seen this particular dial before.

They also have a Milgauss 6541 from 1958 in the same sale with an estimate of $70-$100,000.

What's the connection between the Panama Canal and Submariner?

There were less than 100 made and they are to commemorate the transfer of the Panama Canal from the US to the Republic of Panama in 1999.

Must be the most profitable venture imaginable! The only difference is the logo in the dial. Worth, what? $50,000? I hope they come with a unique serial # and certificate of origin because I see a prey for counterfeiters

Just done a bit more digging and it appears the TT versions are even more rare than the all steel, but I can't find a TT to Steel breakdown on the 75 made.
I can't understand why Antiquorum would put an estimate of 20-30,000 US on it though as they sold an identical watch in April for $90,000

A lot of auction houses do that, show a low price and then people come to see if they can steal it.

I went to one a month ago that had a 911 listed at 10k-12k...which would be a pretty good deal, it went for $23,500.

Not many but they have been commissioned by some Middle Eastern states and Domino Pizza for instance.

Just look at the prices for genuine middle east Sultan watches, with watches like these. You must get all the correct provenience Rolex should have all the serials, and yes quite a bit of extra cash for a a few fonts.
