Changing Dial on 116233 w/ Service - RSC NY
Hey everyone,
I've got a 6-year-old Datejust 116233 (36mm, S&G, jubilee, fluted, champagne dial w/ diamond markers). I have always coveted the black dial with diamond markers both for the contrast and the ability to actually see the darn thing without my glasses. I returned today to the store where I purchased it to discuss a service and mentioned that I may wish to change the color of the dial. The representative told me that they would send it to the Rolex Service Center in New York and that this could be done as long as my selection was something that was originally offered on the watch of this model number, which it was. My questions are: 1. If I want, say, as opposed to a black diamond dial, a black MOP dial with diamond markers, which I believe was offered on a 116233, is that an option as well, even though the watch didn't originally have MOP? 2. If I want a diamond bezel, is that the same model number, and would they allow such an upgrade? 3. The rep noticed a very small nick near the 7 o'clock mark on the crystal and suggested I consider replacing it for about 100-120 bucks. With regard to any suggestions for an aftermarket way of doing this, I don't mean to sound as if I am unconcerned with the cost, but getting something that feels fresh done by Rolex is a lot less expensive than getting a new watch, so I'd like to go the RSC route. Thank you so much for your help! |

I don't believe Rolex will put on any dial that wasn't offered for the specific model in the past. I wouldn't do an aftermarket dial personally. Good luck.

I recently asked St James' in London if I could change my dial on my Tridor for another.
They said you can have any dial that was originally available for that model, as long as you also have the matching crown, hands etc, that would have gone with it. If you don't have those, then you need to purchase them too. So let's say your model was originally available with a purple dial and yellow hands (lovely right?) and a solid diamond crown winder, but you bought it with black dial, SS hand and SS crown winder. If you wanted to now have the purple dial swapped into your watch, you would have to purchase the yellow hands and solid diamond crown winder too! Get the picture? Regards |

That makes total sense. I ended up selling it instead to a friend and buying a Day-Date from someone wonderful on this forum. :)
If I ever want to change out the dial on this one then I will know! |
