Was talking to a buddy on the weekend about depth ratings on watches & how many people use them to there max potential.
He had a great observation.
The depth rating is not for you weareres safety, it is simply a good reason to recover your body if you drown whilst diving,boating, swimming etc.
Your widow knows there is an expensvie watch attached to your arm & it will still be working if you are recovered.
He sells life insurance, so he advised, by recovering the body, not only will the widow get the watch, her insurance will be paid quicker with "Proof of death". Without the body, you are often "missing" for a while.
So, we all now have a perfectly valid reason to be wearing these watches & acquiring more. We are doing it for our loved ones

What about guys who never venture near water, but could still get killed....somehow?

JJ, you live near the Ocean, you could get swept out to sea by a fluke tidal wave.
There has got to be a river around NZ too.

Yes, plenty of ocean and plenty of lakes....no real rivers though!!

Which reminds me of an old joke....if an asteroid were to strike planet earth, it would in all probability miss our tiny New Zealand. The tidal wave that followed, however, wouldn't!!

All my watches do just fine in the deep end of the swimming pool.

Yes agree Daren I would doubt if 25% of all brands of diving watches sold, ever go deeper than your swimming pool.

The only watch I've had that went deeper than a swimming pool was my TAG Kirium. I dived with it in the Caribbean and got down to about 120'. Otherwise, it's down to the bottom of my pool, about 9' down.
