Need help picking my first speedmaster
Hello All
Sorry if my question is very primitive but I tried researching here and for only more confused! I’m wanting to buy my first speedmaster but found tons of different speedmaster models, with varying pricing and value What is it that I need to look for in my speedmaster I don’t buy my watches as investment but prefer ones that keep their value better My wrist is 7.6” and as far as budget, I will buy what retains value more and is sought after Thank you for any help!

New, pre-owned or vintage?

Enough good can't be said about the classic original Speedmaster Pro (moonwatch) on bracelet.
There are a ton of variations and it is confusing, but I suggest the classic with hesalite crystal. (I believe the current ref # is 311.30.42.30.01.005) Also, most Omega dealers will have flex in the price. |

If you take away all the special edition variations and newer coaxial Speedmasters....you're really left with some simple choices that are very timeless like the Speedmaster pro and First Omega in Space. Then it's a matter of deciding bracelet/strap option and hesalite/sapphire. Buy the watches right (grey/used) and it'll hold value very well IMO. All the big appreciating Speedmasters are either vintage or specific limited editions that are desirable in different ways.
I don't recommend vintage for your first Speedmaster unless you know what you're looking at and willing to do a lot of research.....but it'll be very rewarding should you find the right vintage Speedy.....as I mentioned extremely timeless look. In fact you can probably compromise and do something like a 145.022 where it bridges modern and vintage and not lose your shirt on an appreciating Speedy. |

Would go w original Speedy Pro hesalite or DSOTM , would not buy from OB unless you are trying to build a relationship to gain access to future LEs but even then the math is iffy

Buy it on the bracelet, but think about having a nice Alligator strap for it, too. Pick one up at a discount from one of the Trusted Sellers here (I think DavidSW offers it at a good price), or check around for an AD who will deal on price. I think 20% below MSRP with valid papers is probably possible, and I think this translates to ~$3,800 or so. It's a dynamite watch for the money! IMPORTANT: if you're transacting and picking up the watch in person, then it's important that you try out winding the movement in the actual watch you're buying to make sure the winding resistance is light enough. The resistance varies from watch to watch, and having one that is too stiff to wind will completely ruin the experience of owning a Speedmaster. If your watch will be shipped to you, then I recommend you insist the seller try out the winding feel and report whether it's light enough (I realize he can say what ever he wants about this, but I suppose it's better than not asking). |

I have my eye on this one. Not sure if I am going to get one, but if I do get a Speedmaster, it will be this one.
MOONWATCH PROFESSIONAL CHRONOGRAPH 42 MM REF #: 311.33.42.30.01.002 I really like the clear case back and the black alligator strap. It will go perfect with my sub. Only retails for $6150 (US). That's a bargain compared to some of the Rolex watches I also have my eye on. https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/w...1133423001002/ |

The Speedmaster is a great watch and it is easy to get confused with all of the models. I like the Speedmaster Professional 9300. It has the Co-Axial movement and is 44.25 mm. I have a larger wrist and it works the best for me. I would go try some models on before I bought one.

Your wrist is large enough to hold the traditional Hesalite Speedmaster. I'd get it new and add the adjustable clasp. Look around and don't pay more than msrp - 20% at least.

I just bought a NIB Hesalite Pro from one of the trusted sellers here. I am enthralled by it and already looking at adding another variation down the line. Buying new at over 30% of retail seems like a pretty good "investment."

I like all Speedmasters that are not automatic. If I could get the Italian white dial that would be my preference. I do like the Speedy Tuesday alot as well.
