Not sure where they're going with that, as literally the exact opposite was true for many years. Hans started as basically an importer, then started assembling watches, then later gradually brought everything in-house. Rolex bought movements from Aegler (before they basically morphed into one entity), dials from Singer and others, and outsourced many cases (but never Oysters) and bracelets over the years.

Even the patents for a waterproof watch and an automatic winding mechanism (IMHO their 2 most important patents and why Rolex is what it is today) weren't "developed" by Rolex; Hans was just savvy enough to run out and buy the rights to those patents as soon as they popped up. Really not sure why Bucherer would say such nonsense

Edit: I guess they're talking about their current situation, but they mention this right after their 1927 history so, I found it unclear
