Restarting my collection - help.
Fellow watch lovers,
I’m in the process of re-starting my collection. Sold everything I have except for a 14060m Sub. Which option do you all prefer to get (re) started. Option A - keep the 14060, and add a 16030 Datejust. Option B - move the 14060 for a new Explorer, and add a vintage DJ. Probably either a 1603, or, more likely, a 16030. Option C - move the 14060, and add a new brand DJ. Probably a 116234, silver dial. I’d then add a 36 mm Explorer 1. Help. |

Hi Bad, the best answer is always whatever makes you happy. The 14060m is a wonderful watch and I think it's nice to retain something for the ages so I wouldn't recommend ditching it for something else unless of course it makes your happy doing so.

Why is your goal to have a “collection”? Buy what you want and only add another piece when it meets your needs. Asking others for input in foolish. With that said, what should I have for dinner?

None of the above.
Keep the sub and when something comes along you can't live without, grab it. |

I'm a fan of the Sub Date. That's the one I'd own as a pillar of a collection. Moving the no-date Sub would be a definite move for me. And I prefer new watches over vintage, provided the new model has the look I love.
When I got my 16710 it had patina. Not a lot, but the BLRO bezel was just starting to fade and the hands had almost no lume left. I sent it in for basic service plus a new dial and hands. Since I'm not a collector, instead wearing whatever I buy, I'm happier with a fresh new-looking watch.

Keep the sub. Buy a nice gmt with a faded insert. Then a Speedmaster moonwatch and white faced explorer 2 40mm. Now that is a good collection. Sea, air, and underground covered. Plus some color. And major variety.

Option 1, although I'd suggest a new DJ

I kind of figured keep the Sub would be the leader. That’s where I was leaning; just needed a push. Thanks all.

Pretty loaded question. Keeping 14060M sounds smart to me and the rest, trial and error will give you best answer.
