SBGA125 (Blizzard) vs SBGA109 (Tatami)

Recently seeing more GS in the Europe/UK grey markets / non-Ad boutiques, once I could never get hold off 3 years back unless I go to Japan or in the U.S..

Dug up my wishlist a few years back and comparing the 2 pieces:

Blizzard vs Tatami.

With the new SGBA211 and its new GS logo without the SEIKO, the snowflake will undoubtedly be around to add to my collection and many's favorites. However, I have my eye on a few GS first including the Peacock, and the SBGJ021 (the dark red dial, reminiscent of dawn at Mount Iwate!) before picking up the famous snowflake.

Well, the other two models I would like to be my first GS are the SBGA125 and SBGA109. Both unique dial, with the 125 having the 9R15 movement, that extra selected quartz crystal and the additional gold GS mini circle case back, vs. imo the mesmerising yet clean/simple 109 dial, tough to choose.

SBGA125 (TATAMI)

SBGA109 (BLIZZARD)

Your thoughts?

I’m a fan of the Blizzard Dial. It looks fantastic... it gets my vote. But you should really just get the SBGJ227 first. I just got it and am extremely happy with it!

I like the Tatami, it has a classical Japanese look.

I believe you have the watches misidentified in the pictures. The Tatami is the 109 and the Blizzard is the 125.

I love the Tatami. Beautiful dial with a blued power reserve hand... But it kind of sounds like you want a Snowflake, so I would just get that. Yes, GS has a few beautiful limited editions, but GS will likely come out with new and equally beautiful limited editions every year. Buy your current favorite now and add your next favorite later.

Thanks for the comments. I am going wtih TXkill in still aiming to get the Peacock first...if I can find it at the right price point in the next 2 months. I see a bit of that available from the U.S. for sure, but unwilling to pay that 20% tax and custom with makes the piece cost exactly the same as new at the new Seiko Boutique just opened in London. Seiko is so behind in Europe compare to the U.S. and I know coming working for the sister company (Orient - owned by Epson)!

I don't even get Seiko discount and only staff sales for things like Astron. They actually ban staff discount on GS at my work...lol.

However, if I can't get my hands on the 227, I would have to go with the Tatami (just can't give up the 9R15 movement) and as Old Beast mention, has that Japanese zinc to it + the unstated dial for personal enjoyment. Still, love the blizzard, but if snowflake can relaunch to the 211 from the 011, I am sure the blizzard will so will have the chance later to grab one.

A bit late but my vote goes to...

For me, nothing beats the first and the original - Spring Drive Snowflake! I even went to the extent of selling my SBGW253 as it looks pretty same with the Snowflake sans the non spring Drive movement. No regrets!
