Still new to the Seiko/GS brands, but I see there's lots of interest around some of the high end and limited Prospex models and re-issue pieces.

Any love for the Grand Seiko divers?

Understandably, there's a price gap between the two, but the SBGA229 looks rather nice and is the lowest cost GS diver option currently available.

Anyone own this one and enjoy it? Anyone own both a GS and maybe the SLA019/SLA021 or the limited SLA025?

Just trying to distinguish between the two, and if it makes sense to splurge on the Grand Seiko??

I lust after a SBGA231G, I have tried one on and love the lightness of the Titanium, I am saving my pennies to get one.

I have owned a few. Now I have the SBGX117. I like them. I have to say the 44mm ti version wears like a 42mm. There quality punches way above the price point.

That's my reasoning, as well. While Rolex counterpart divers are 8k+ the GS divers (less Ti models) are relatively much less while packing a similar punch.

Will try to get my hands on one this weekend.The 44mm size is big, but every time I read up on these watches it sounds like they wear much smaller. I owned a James Cameron DSSD for a few months but eventually sold it. I could wear it, but man, it was thick.

I own both the SLA019 and the SLA021. I was a little late to the game with theses divers and I have handled several of the GS divers. Depending on where you can get in for the Grand Seiko Diver I would consider the SLA021 which has the black dial and face. The SLA019 is a LE piece and when I was looking they were bringing a slight premium but as usual that did not slow me down. I attended the Windsor Grand Seiko Event in Winston-Salem on Thursday and had a good time and got to see a lot of Grand Seiko watches. They had several of the Grand Seiko Divers. Have fun tonight and let us know what you think.

I’m loving the high end Seiko divers. I had the SLA 021 for a grand total of 2-3 weeks before I upgraded to the 025. The 025 is pricey but it’s absolutely awesome. They both are awesome watches. I’m on the look out for the 017 and have a deposit down and am in line to get the SLA033 at my AD. What I’m trying to say is that I’m absolutely in the high end seiko mode right now. But I too really want the SBGA231. Because that watch is absolutely stunning. I’d do the SBGH255, but that thing is a monster at 47mm and 17mm high, but has the high beat movement in there.

None of the GS divers appeal to me. I find the turtles more appealing.

The sport GS that jumps at me is the ceramic GMT.

I agree. I just don’t care for the GS divers. Hope they came out with one that I do. The turtles are much nicer looking to me.

Had the SBGX117 which for what I sold it for should’ve just kept it. Have the SLA025, and golden snowflake. The SLA025 is pretty well finished, the sbgx didn’t seem appreciably nicer. I got them to be understated, but because how chunky they are I’ve gotten more comments on them than my 5711, or 15202. Would love a less chunky one. Was debating the sbga029 when it was on clearance but as nice as it is it looks too much like a sub from a distance. I also would have gotten the sbgh257 in a heartbeat if it were a reasonable size.

The other thing that’s annoying with the plain seiko watches is threading he crown, sla025 I have to reverse thread it in, which is something I’ve never had to do in any of my other watches.

On most the watches I have owned with a 4 o'clock crown this is something I have always done.
