Very cool sighting on USS MIDWAY

I’m sure that many have seen this but I saw this photo on the wall you could buy a Rolex for 150.00 on the ship. After walking the ship tour god bless all our service members. I couldn’t help but notice how difficult it would be for
Guys like my 6’3 and above to walk thru the ship

I wonder if they still have ships stores? Might be worth inquiring about the wait list on a BLRO

Well there ya go folks! Join the Navy, see the world, do some good, get that BLRO you want out of the ships PX catalog. See Danny, you just solved it.

Question is would you join the Navy if you could get the BLRO while on deployment on a carrier? Lol

No way I am not a brave enough man to join the service like many of the members are. God bless all of you. Walking the ship was so much fun. Seeing the sleeping conditions etc. hard work that goes into running a ship like that. Reminds me of how great of a country we live in. So many men and women sacrificed so much so we can complain about wait times for watches. Lol.

Looks like that was about $1300 in today's currency, US. A LOT of money then.

Looking at another chart it was roughly a few weeks to a months pay for an enlisted guy or a junior officer. Maybe half that for commissioned officers. Another way to think about it is for a entry level professional in the military it was about 2 weeks pay.

So Rolexes have gone up. I think of entry level professional work as maybe 40-60K these days (A LOT more if in IT in the bay area). But generally. So still about a months pay for an entry level Rolex. It's a lot of money but still affordable if you don't buy a lot of other toys.

I am on a Carrier reading this now, good for a chuckle. I don't go down to the ship's store often but trust there are no Rolex's there anymore! Monster drinks, junk food, and foot power are about it..

Leaving the NAVY as an HM2 in 2010 I can assure you the ship store on a carrier doesn’t carry a Rolex in it lol.

I thought the same thing at 6'4, one hour on the ship and my neck hurt.

I really liked the tour, I wish I had more time between meetings to see more of it. I remember that sign and joking with my wife about my first stop when they build a time machine.

That haircut, mustache, and sideburns look a lot more like Zumwalt's Navy (ca. 1970) than the Navy of 1962.

Boat life was tough and fun at times. You'll get used to the living conditions. I remember one guy who was 6'8". I don't know how he slept in his rack. As others have stated, the ship's store is no longer an AD.
