Rolex sub service

I last had my Rolex 16800 serviced at the Dallas service center 8 years ago. I don’t wear it all the time. I was thinking about getting it serviced in Dallas at a independent watchmaker mentioned on this forum. Would you say it’s due for a service it’s keeping good time?

My watchmaker in Florida inspects first then tells me if it needs a service. Inspection is free.

If its running fun and passes a pressure test, I'd wait. Just my .02

It is not due for a service. Don't waste your money and don't risk your watch. Service it when it needs a service and then send it to the RSC.

Well I took it in to Chamosa Watch Repair in north Dallas. Service on the watch will be 350. He said he would lightly polish the bracelet and adviced me not polish the head because it was in great shape. I figured I’d try somebody besides the RSC. I’ll let you guys no how it turns out.

Apples and oranges, but my Wife's 19 year old Datejust only recently went in for service. Was getting a bit stiff to wind and running out of power if not worn for 10-12 hours. No new parts were needed, just cleaning and lubrication!

Here is a picture of the watch from today before I took it in. I was advised not to polish the case. Which is ok. Does it look over polished? It is a 30 plus year old watch.

The case looks fine at a quick glance. The bezel on the other hand... I think you will elevate the watch a great deal by replacing it with a fresh bezel.

Why have it serviced if it's running fine ?
Our forums own official RSC watchmaker advises to sent it in only when it's faulty.

Only a simple pressure test would probably suffice but I get it, nice watch btw, case looks good as well. Enjoy many more dives

You could always do a self test.....
Take watch put it on..
Go to local swimming baths
Dive down to deepest part of pool
If watch fills with water it's failed..
If it does not its passed ..

Glad to be of help

Personally I would get a RSC to do it or very good independent as above may pass but you may break your watch

Authentic? It had honestly not occurred to me to suggest a change to a fake bezel. Would anyone actually do that?

I mean new. The one he has looks very soft and inconsistent with what looks like the good state of the rest of the watch. A new bezel would work wonders.

Let's see, it was serviced at RSC and they stuck a fake bezel on it. Sure they did. Actually what I believe is meant by soft is that the bezel itself has seen quite a bit of polishing and lacks crispness (also the crown lugs but that could be the photo).

Agree 100%. I would personally prefer a few scratches to a polish like that, that to me has essentially ruined the bezel.

Chamosa is great, I have had several watches serviced by him over the years.

Actually by dad changed the bezel on his Two-tone Submariner 16613, but he was truly abusing that gorgeous watch so much that it was honestly not worth getting a real one. (The watch was stolen when our house was broken into, so it makes little difference now)
