First Omega - Seamaster 300m (new) or speedy

Hi all

Long time lurker and first time poster.

Have a few watches already in my emerging collection.

- Rolex datejust ii - silver dial smooth
- Tudor blackbay S&G
- Tag Aquaracer (2007) - navy blue dial
- Archimedes B type - bronze

I have been dwelling on the thought of getting my first Omega. I am stuck between a speedy pro (hesalite) or a blue or silver dial SMPC 300m. I don’t have a Chrono yet and I have two dive watches. Admittedly, I never wear the Tag anymore with the others in the stable.

I am stuck because next year for my 40th I want to get an AP RO chrono. Likely the new 38mm. I want a clean fit on my 6.8 inch flat wrist. Will need to try in though.

About to turn 39 and want to get an omega. I like both but the new SMP does sing to me. I passed up trying one in 2007 when I got the Tag and the new ones are great. I also like the speedy but generally am a three hand watch guy and want the Chrono AP next year (need to self justify a large purchase - more of an upbringing thing that a budget constraint).

Would be interested to hear the sales pitch in one or the other having seen so many awesome pics of both. Pics welcome to wet my appetite obviously.

Cheers guys.

Welcome! You already have two divers, I’d hold tight for the AP. Beautiful watch.

I'd try the Daytona and AP chrono first.

That said, I own and love the Speedy Pro. Great casual daily wearer. Comfortable and handsome watch. Second hand these are inexpensive and you can always resell if you needed.

The Daytona is a stellar piece but overpriced and hard to read. I owned one and sold it because it wore a touch small on me and was, I'm sad to say, hard to read. Someday I may get another, but would probably get a PM or all black SS ceramic.

From your description it seems like the one speaking to you more is the SMP. If that’s the one your heart is set on, I would recommend that.

Thanks guys.

I will get the AP next year regardless of what I may get this year. I admit I am leaning to the SMP. I like a touch of colour and something robust. More that I don’t have a Chrono at present so that would be something different.

I personally don't think an AP chrono would have anything on a speedie. One is all about real history-one is a fashion piece with a reputation for questionable reliability. The new Seamaster is an awesome choice by any standard.

If you want an omegA, a bit of colour and a chrono have a look at one of these.

The 2016 version is nice too.

That said, the new seamaster is very nice at the price point if you decide to go that way.
