5513 Authentic?

Just purchased this off Ebay. Seller says he got it from a thrift store.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/173877105190

I'm not well versed in 5513's but it seems authentic to my eye albeit overpolished.

Seller has 0 feedback. I think you got a 50/50 shot of getting the watch pictured or anything at all.

Good luck!

50/50... I wouldn’t give it that much hope

Selling Rolex
Thrift store find (yet knows it’s metres first)

I’d say it’s someone that knows what they’re worth and is a scammer using an old hacked account (acc is 4 years old and never used)

Yes. I'm not worried about getting the watch or not. Ebay in my experience has very good buyer protection. I am more curious about the authenticity of the watch.

keep us informed of outcome. Any refs offered on reddit listing? Can you link it? Guy on other thread says it sold for $6500 according to seller. Don't get hopes up too high.

Yes, here's the reddit thread.

If the watch comes, I will post better photos for all to see.

So did you pay $6500 or $5467? If higher figure how does that work? Your PP invoice through Ebay will be $5467. You could lose $1K+ sending the difference without buyer protection.

Be sure to take it to a watchmaker and get the movement authenticated.

Be careful, if you send this to Rolex, it will most likely not be in it's original condition with original parts when it is returned.

It’s funny reading that reddit thread, people saying he’s probably being scammed selling on eBay haha.

Also, going by the replies saying it’s worth north of $10k and people offering $10k I’d now be more worried he’d be getting cold feet on the $6500 deal.

It does seem a bit of a perfect storm though, maybe I’m just a sceptic but posts on reddit 13 hours ago a watch he bought for $2.50 asking what it is, puts it (now with details) on an eBay acc with 0 feedback, he’s a student yet the eBay account has been open for 4 years (both exact name) then an hour later he’s sold it.

I guess if you paid with PayPal you’ll be ok so fingers crossed you get it. One good thing is he didn’t say “don’t know if it’s real” or something along those lines or any other disclaimer so you should be ok either way. If you never see it ebay will have you covered, if it turns up and it’s fake then it was sold as genuine so again should be ok.

Have you had any update?

I’ve just looked at his reddit profile, he is a ‘watch guy’ and has a watch collection including vintage Tudor so kind of makes the innocent “is it real post” a bit odd?

Looks like the crystal is the issue yet the eBay ad says dial os what’s knackered, wouldn’t a watch Guy know this?

Also if you’d found that and being a watch guy you’d be on all the forums bragging and wanting as much dough as poss.

wow, beautiful. If it was me I would go to independent who's expertise is vintage Rolex. I would try to keep as much as possible original, including hands and crystal.

OMG - Do NOT do that.
As I said in your other thread, this is probably an original piece from mid 60s.
That dial is fantastic.
Its TRITIUM, so Rolex will insist on replacing it.

Just post photos here of movement, we know excactly what movement should be in it - easy to authenticate

I am simply sending to get it authenticated. They won't service without written authorization. Once I see what they insist on replacing and have the final itemization, I will have them send it back.

I can't post photos of the movement as I do not have a caseback opener.

Understand
I think easier to take to a local watchmaker, ask him to open it and take some photos
But its your call

I would love to see the watchmaker's photos of the dial. That crystal makes it impossible to tell what is underneath.

Well, I'm sure there are some vintage watch lovers who have never really had to think about authentication because they knew (based on the source) exactly what they were getting when procuring such.

As an enthusiast, I'm pretty good at spotting a modern fake (and could probably tell with 99.5% accuracy if holding it), but not sure about vintage.

OP is in Chicago, so there's always Sutter's. They did a crap job on overhauling my Exp. II (didn't replace defective 3186 part that should have been replaced regardless of function), which Rolex had to fix, but they're probably good enough to handle/authenticate.

He just needs the back opened and thereafter a new glass
I would NOT touch the dial

Just me

Agreed, but I still wouldn't want it opened up by just anyone; stuff like replacing the gaskets after, etc, right?
