New Watch Dilemma

Ok, it is getting near the time for another watch purchase. I currently have a TT Sub/Date and a TT Daytona Gray Dial. Love em both. I have had my eye on a GMT, but.......while at my AD I happened by the Breitling section and tried on a Navitimer Chrono, blue dial, and well....loved it!! So a little bit of anxiety here. I know better than to ask for an opinion about what I should do in a Rolex Forum but maybe I can get some objective opinions. The Breitling lists for $5,250. I am not thinking of abandoning Rolex, maybe just mixing it up a bit, but I don't have much experience with Breitling. Opinions???

Breitling are beautiful watches. They can usually be had at a nice discount, but resale values are generally low

Get the GMT not because it's a Rolex, but because that's the one you've had your eye on. If you get the Breitling, you will eventually want the GMT.

I wish you had told me that about ten times so far

I would go with the GMT, that is the one that you will always be wanting.
Hmmmm
however, if you go for the Breitling now, you could add the GMT later.
For me it is the Pam98 calling me, but the Jaeger Master Calender is whispering in my ear also.

You know you want the Jeager, tell you what, you fly down to Atlanta, we go to Neiman's see the very pretty, and very blonde Sharon, and buy our Jeagers together, then hit the town. I hear the dollar if falling against yours.

Hi bigG,

Breitlings can be had at as high as 35~40% discounts. I know that for sure 'cause I bought one last year and actually made a 500 dollar profit on the resale.

However, you may not be so lucky. If you really want it, trash the AD for a massive discount like I did. Then it's worth it...in the event you wish to resell it some day. Remember, Breitling resale value is not that hot.

Otherwise, a GMT-II would be a top-notch choice!!

Either way, good luck, pal and do keep us posted.

Cheers - JJ

Are you talking about the Niemen's in the Lenox mall? Or is there one in Phipps?

If you really want to get a new Breitling, check out the Alan Furman site. They have sizeable discounts on them there (approx 1500 or more).

Only Lenox, unfortunately, Phipps is a better mall, but no Jeager dealers, there is a Rolex AD there. I was just suprised that the offered a discount before I asked for one. Neimans has always had great service there, they are really into bending over backwards for their customers. I believe them to be the best department store for service, bar none.I also got to talk at length with Jean Claude Biver when Blancpain was picked up by Neimans. A realy enjoyed talking to him, a really nice guy. He is as nuts about watches as we are, one of our own.
