116610LN Sub Date vs 126600 50th Anniversary Sea Dweller

I had been studying for a promotional test the past 5-6 months and scored really well so I wanted to buy a watch to commemorate the occasion. I currently have the 126660 James Cameron and 114060 and have narrowed my next watch down to two different choices, the 116610LN and the 126600. I want a diver that has the date/cyclops to complete my collection. Does anyone have experience with these 2 watches and can make a recommendation?

I love the size of the Deep Sea and it's become my daily wearer so I think I prefer the size of the SD43 over the sub. I prefer the deep black dial of the submariner over the matte dial of the Seadweller and the Sub is significantly cheaper. If I buy I sub I would flip the bracelet to recoup even more funds because I keep my 114060 on a rubber strap and can use that bracelet on the sub.

I think I prefer the aesthetics and subtle differences of the 126600 but is it worth the nearly 4-5K premium I'd be paying?

Anyone with thoughts on both would be helpful.

Thanks!

116610LN Sub Date vs 126600 50th Anniversary Sea Dweller

I have had both at the same time; and I would personally prefer 116610LN over 126600 any day due to better size, dimensions, case shape, and also the Deep black dial, which I like better on sub than SD43.

But looking at your watches, I’d suggest you 126600 over 116610LN, primarily because:

1. Sub still has older movement and is likely to be updated next year (I was expecting this year but let’s hope next)
2. You already have 114060 and adding the same watch with date over cyclops wouldn’t be much different and versatile than what you’ve got. 126600 is far different from the deep sea so it’s worth the change.
3. In Australia, 126600 is only about $2k-ish - $3k AUD more expensive than submariner date, so you should be able to get it cheaper, unless you’re talking about sticker price?
4. 126600 has better movement.
5. 126600 is 50th anniversary watch hence quite more special than standard production sub.
6. SD wears far better than DSSD, so you’d only be happier with the wrist presence.

I also did a comparison video between this, in case you wanted to have a look:

All the best.

Awesome, thanks. The price difference is because I'd flip the Sub date bracelet for 1.5-2K. I like keeping the 114060 on my everest rubber strap so I would just use the bracelet for that on the Sub date.

Hmmm.. fair enough. I reckon you should keep the bracelet mate. You never know when in love you may plan to sell it. You’d lose fortune more selling sub without bracelet.

The SD43 is a special piece, far more so that the 116610LN in my opinion. Since the JC doesn’t bother you size-wise I would choose the SD and I’m guessing you won’t be disappointed.

I think you answer your own question! SD43 is right for you
Plus you already have a sub so the SD43 would fit very nice as different in size, specialness (50th anniversary), dial with red lettering.

I prefer 116610LN a very classic.
You have the Sub/Sub date and the Deepsea, the SD I see useless
Look my collection Sub , Sub date and Deepsea ..... and Daytona OK

SS43 was my choice, though it sounds like you fancy the sub. I picked the sub over the SD4K in part due to the glossy dial. Over time, it was too “shiny” for me. The proportions and updated movement made swapping an easy decision. Lastly, the sub never felt special whereas the SD has. Perhaps that’ll change when the market is flooded with them, but for now I enjoy not being “one in the crowd.” In the end, no bad choice here.

Appreciate all the feedback, I think I knew I wanted the 126600 but just wanted to make sure it was worth the premium. In the long run I guess it's better to buy what you truly want than spend a little less and make an expensive mistake.

If you love the size of the JC than the SD43 would be the way to go!!!!

SD43 for sure.

Had both and sold the 116610 (although it was replaced with a 114060). The 43mm size, matte dial and that red text are absolutely perfect!

Wow, I guess you were so lucky that you were able to see all three hot watches lined up in front of you and choose what you love!! I'm trying to get another rolex but can't even find any to try on at ADs.
