HongKong/Chinese Dealer Buying Cartels

I heard from some collector friends that within HongKong and China, Nautilus trading is still very alive and well at high prices. However purchases from U.S and others are being deliberately avoided because of:

1) Increase crackdown on import declarations
2) HongKong dealers are sick of the "Americans" and "Europeans" arbitraging the system and marking up prices again and again.
3) Summer slowdown

The first focal point was a dealer show last week where the Asia dealers deliberately avoided buying from America and EU dealers. There was a separate "China/Singapore/HK/Asia" dealer meeting before and after where trading was done. Again, this was told to me by a collector friend. I cannot validate.

Anyway, thought I would pass it along.

Well, what happens is you will see a temporary price dip in the U.S and EU on Nautilus prices. The pent up demand will get so crazy in China/HK that if you smuggle in a Nautilus you might be able to sell for 100k+ in 6 months.

The Chinese government is also cracking down on money leaving the country even more.

Perhaps its time to go long more BitCoins? :) Untracebility will get you far

You don't need to smuggle in a Nautilus, or any watch, into HK. You can bring in as many as you like, and there will be no tax or duty to pay.

I think it’s the watches consolidating in HK for import into Mainland China. The dealer boycott was in HK though or so I am told.

So, there'll be a "Dealer World War"?

It is a good news for us consumers. The grey market prices will be cooled off in USA and Europe; or at least, we hope so.

I'm not sure. Except that the expected "sales" for the month didn't occur as intended for some dealers. We'll have to see how it plays out in the month to come. A few weeks does not a trend make :)

I would have thought they'll have a major surplus of grey stock already with less foreign visitors due to recent protests and less mainlanders visiting and buying. Plenty of brand new Nautilus with HK and Macau papers about for silly prices.

No import tax to HKG.

Heard from the grapevine that some dealers aren't counting on Rolex to be their bread and butter. This could be in relation to the current slowdown in Batman and Hulk.

Depends where you look perhaps. Also have to give the right signal and they'll show you the hidden room haha.

I saw 5740, 5990 new, 5711, 5712a new other day. Green aqua, 5164 and so on. Local papers.

In my world this is called a “buyer strike”. Once it’s over priced move again

Haha! I just browse the ground floor stores in TST. I’ve seen everything else nearly except Nautilus and also Aquanauts thinking about it.
