Icon20 Hello, and a question from Oslo

Hi,

I’ve recently become the happy owner of a 16710 “Pepsi” with the Swiss only dial, my first Rolex. But I’ve also become aware of a little puzzle.

The original certificate is dated 1998 with and X serial. I’ve been looking for other examples of a “Swiss only” + “X serial” GMT Master II, to no a-wail.

Does anyone around here know it this is a fluke on Rolex part? I realize publicly accessible serial prefix databases are crowdsourced and unofficial, but how does a certifiable X serial end up with a Swiss only at a certified AD? And before you ask, I bought it privately, but with an AD as intermediary. The AD had just serviced the watch and in no uncertain terms guaranteed for it’s authenticity. All the paperwork is intact and authentic, verified by the AD. I’m a cautious buyer, or at least I hope so:)

I’d appreciate input on this matter, and look forward to getting acquainted with this forum!

Unless someone else here sees this and knows, you could send it to RSC for authentication. Here they provide that service for $125 cdn

Welcome! Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you. But there must be some 16710 expert around here who can enlighten us.
