Not smart move - black is superior and why not take it?

I would’ve done the same thing as you. If you didn’t want it don’t buy it.

This thread sucks the joy out of watches for me, as does the AD process.

Don’t let any watch take any joy from you brother. You are blessed and you have a superior watch imo to the SS version.

I kind of like the black better - in any case, secure the black one, pay a small premium to trade to a white with a reputable grey. The extra few K on the part exchange is worth it.

This is kind of funny, I'm sure the fact that he wants a white Daytona only has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it is the most coveted/highest priced secondary market stainless steel sports rolex ... rollseye

Being frank with your AD is always going to pay up, it takes some nerves but it shows you are a collector not a speculator ..good luck i am 100 percent sure your AD will come thru .

I think the OP made the right choice to decline the black SS Daytona.

Back in 2014, I was at the Ben Bridges in the Ala Moana Mall in Hawaii. I walked in asking for a Daytona, and they actually had one that they were willing to sell me with no buying history, but it was the black dial 116520 Daytona and I was wanting the white dial. I reluctantly passed on it because it wasn't the one I really wanted.

The next day, I was feeling really remorseful having passed on the black dial and considered going back to the mall to hopefully pick it up, but walked into the Rolex boutique (no longer there now) on the strip and asked if they had a white dial Daytona and the SA walked out with one. I bought it right then and there. Sometimes the stars just align. Had I bought the black dial Daytona the day before, I wouldn't have walked into the Rolex boutique and found the white dial the next day.

I think the OP's AD will come through for him. It may not be by the end of the year or even next year. Patience is the key. I know it's easy to say, but OP made his bed and now has to lay in it, but still the right decision IMO.

I was offered a black Daytona once and declined- I didn’t really have the money for it at the time but have looked back and wish I had made it work. Oh well, life moves on.

Wow. What a time to walk in and get offered both colored Daytonas with no purchase history. I think things definitely took a turn when the 116500 was released to unobtainable. Glad you got the white. I think the black was considered a little more popular with the 116520 too.

I have a buddy who had a 116520 and traded it for the 116500 and says it was his biggest mistake. That he loved the 116520 better. He fell for the hype. Wear what you love. Not what other people love.

If I had the money back then, I would have gotten both!! The white dial was my grail watch at the time. I thought it would be the last Rolex I would buy. I've added a few more within the last 10 years.

I agree, "wear what you love." The only one that got away was a Hulk back in 2019. I could have gotten it at retail, but I had just purchased a blue dial Sky Dweller on oyster from the grey market. I couldn't justify spending another 10k, but I did add a Starbucks this past March, so my itch for green has been satisfied, for now. Not anytime soon, but hoping to add a RG DD in the far distant future.

Agree with others - missed turn on this one. Hopefully you get another shot as promised.

That said, I think the black is much, much, nicer than the white (and more legible). That said I went the RO chrono route and happier that I did.
