This gave me a good laugh! It only took about 20 years for the 996s to start getting some love!

Agree with the mixed bag sentiment - LOVE the new dial layout but the case is a bit blocky. With that being said I would probably take the new version over the old as I have a bigger wrist. The precious metal ones with pm subdials I think look the most improved. 😍

seems like the tachymeter markings on the new bezel is not engraved, just printed on. plus the metal ring surrounding the ceramic bezel, i think rolex is trying to make the new daytona looks dressier.

every new version of a fan based car model or watch model gives these outrages:
then people get used to the new version, and the majority embraces,
while a minority wishes for past models.

If you will recall, Rolex actually made the Submariner bigger, going to 41. They simply narrowed slightly the lugs and made the bracelet wider.

As for what “Rolex fans” want, it seems like Rolex has never been more popular. I think they know what they are doing.

That would be a major disappointment if true

Initially, it was just an assumption, but this article lists it as 20mm.

I haven't done any comparison there, but several sources say it's thinner (11.9mm vs previously being 12.5mm).

The updated white dial doesn't look as good. I like all the changes they made except for the subdials. I think the old white dial looks better, the new black dial looks better.

Is there somewhere a good side shot from the new version? Have not seen that so far.

I'm surprised there are no detail shots of the side profile from youtubers in w&w,as it is supposed to be very different from the 116500ln.

New Rolex daytona panda 126500LN vs 116500LN

The below is from the Rolex website so not exactly what’s being asked for, but nonetheless it gives a decent idea of a side profile…

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant by downsizing is rolex try to fix the maxi case that makes overal outlook of the watch become square-ish.

in this video you see the side profile a bit. I really like to look from the front but the side profile scares me a bit. Need to see it irl.

It's "maxi-dial" and "super-case". Anyway, again, the watches are bigger, just designed differently to look more streamlined (or more generic, depending on one's point of view).

New Rolex daytona panda 126500LN vs 116500LN

The case is exactly like the 116515/8/9 OF PM Daytonas we’ve already seen, which do not wear big.

To me it looks like the black benefited from the facelift, while the white felt a bit more... "different" in 116 guise.
The black 116 was always the dressier of the two to me, and now it has gained some more jewelry-like qualities.
I'd need to see them both live, probably it will take years even for that opportunity to materialise.

the market price of the two ss daytona 116500 says it all. the panda price jump instantly over 15%, while the black one almost remains unchanged after the 126500 announced.

I literally see the opposite on MODA.

Black at 29.9 and white at 31. 15%?

Well in that case I'll ignore the visible listings go with your secret ones.

That's a joke by the way. I don't have either watch and don't care to pay over retail no matter the case.

I see it more like the Submariner case, more flat and elegant but I think the 116500 it’s another story.

There is no hesitation to have, how an evolution can be worse than the previous one ?? Just intellectual jerk or self-consolation of the owners of the 116500...
I'm part of it but delighted with this new 126500, which I'm already on the list for.

Coud be the effect of novelty too...
In no time 95% of people will find the old version too beefy !

Objectively it is better proportioned, more readable, it is somewhat reminiscent of the 16520 which also had thinner sub-counters and indexes, while being more modern, without forgetting the latest caliber.
Perfection and the Dayto icon continues its story

Well I prefer the new version to the replaced version.

The new version is more like the older 5 digit models, but I have a pair of them so I see this as a positive.
