Whether or not the prices stay there, or keep climbing, remains to be seen.
Exactly.

Agreed. There are a lot of things I like about the 12 series, but IMO you can’t beat the sleek profile of the 116500. The harmonious flow of case to bezel to crystal. The way the slim lugs seem to follow the taper of the bracelet to almost appear integrated. Seems like it’s losing some of that elegance with the new case. But if comparing the 12 series to chronographs from other brands, it still has beautiful, compact dimensions.

When you hit stop does the second hand actually stop between one of the hash marks or does it jump ahead?

Actually it depends on how well the dial/seconds chrono hand is aligned.

Just give it some time settle in and people will be falling all over for the new 126500. I love my 116500 but I'm quite keen to see the new one.
I'm puzzled by daytona owners who put down the 12 series version. Just be happy with what you've got, your watch isn't any better or worse because of the new release. We're not talking iPad or iPhone, we're talking about a Rolex which is supposed to be timeless and made to function for decades to come.

10 pm over here

So, threw this together. Very rough due to it being 10pm over here

Ignore the right lug on the 116519. Its reflections.

Just going to leave this here

top - real photo

Bottom - still a render?

Daytona vertical clutch is insanely crisp. One of the best. It stops immediately....but the hand never lines up with the minor indexes. Only when the 1/5 hash and the 1/8 vibration share a period at 1 second.

If they used 1/4 hash the hand would always be exactly on an index or dead center between when you click.

The outgoing model with the white dial was a watch that I really loved despite knowing I would never be able to find one. After seeing the Hodinkee post which featured the photos of the new model in a black dial I’m pretty sure if I ever had the choice I would now choose black. For some reason the white now looks off to me while the black really looks incredible.

Trying to match the angle with my 116520. The new one appears a tiny bit thicker at 8 and 10, and the lugs seem thicker, too. I'll try to see the new one, eventually, when it makes the tour to ADs and report on the in-person differences. I have no desire to trade "up" to the new one based on pictures.

I have discovered the case diameter is slightly larger than 116500 if the back cap’s dimension remains the same. Compared 126500 picture with my 116500. Took a clear picture but I guess I’m too new to post pics. Sad

Cases appear identical old (on right) to new on left.

Which would indicate, as many of us suspect, the new 126500 has simply been given the old symmetrical pm case

for those PM OF daytona models. now rolex need to make a bezel ring in PM and then insert the ceramic into it, which require more gold and more assembly procedure. but the price of the new models are still the same, i am surprised they didnt increase the price!

If one day Rolex makes an actual panda with white dial black sub dials, then what would some of you call the watches shown here? Would you not call these pandas anymore because an actual panda showed up?
