And I also noticed the orange hand is above the hour hand in the stack obscuring the time. On the original orange Explorer the 24 hour hand was below the hour hand. And in my opinion giving better legibility to the current time.
Exactly.... Anyone know why this was changed?

Just looked at my 1655 and 216570... Not sure why Rolex changed the layering of the hands, quite frankly I did not even notice it until reading your question on another members post, however, it does not detract from the beauty of the watch... Will post a pic soon (on my iPad)...

I assume the handstack was changed due to some technical necessity/convenience related to the independent hour hand function the 42mm Explorer has....remember, the 1655 only shows one time zone and the 12 & 24 hour hands cannot set independently as later Exp IIs allow.

The handstack of the 42mm Explorer is just like that of the 16710 GMT-II, the 116710 GMT-II, (and the 16550 and 16570 Explorer IIs), all of which also have the independently adjustable 12-hour hand capability.

Do agree the original looks slightly better, but its not a major issue to me.

Beautiful pics of the striking BLUE LUME! There is no lume on my 1655, however, may the force be with you!

Almost flipped this for the 16750. Literally brought it to work to ship out. Put it on just to check, and realized I could not part with it. And im a true blue flipper. This is an amazing watch. So now i have both. Lol.

Now I'm thinking black.

Rolex really hit a home run with this one.
I'm in the same boat. I love the white one, especially with the super large black hands and black borders on the indices. But the black is also amazing and resembles the 1655 which is a watch I've always admired.

Going through the 12 pages on my thread, I've made up my mind on my next watch. I have time to think of which color to choose but it's getting harder and harder to decide! I already have a black sub and a white daytona.
