Remember, OP was a strong proponent of ADs keeping your warranty card for 5 years, having your license on file, vetting, etc... to prevent somebody from flipping their watch. Yet he's doing this exactly. I don't agree with any of these tactics, btw.
Maybe. But to them it doesn’t seem any different than giving it as a gift. What chaps an AD’s behind, I’d imagine, it’s seeing someone make several times their commission with a fraction of the cost/risk. Not happening here.

1. I talked some of the OUT of the piece because they normally wear bigger watches... and I didn't want them to buy the new Explorer 36 sight unseen/unworn.
2. Some offers were politely declined because they resided in EMEA, APAC, etc.
3. And a few others thought about it but have not pulled the trigger.
4. Finally, some of them were new members with very few posts -- and I didn't want to risk the piece falling into the hands of an opportunistic flipper.

Bottom line...

BNIB 124273 is still up for grabs to a loyal TRFer. PM if you're interested.

If I didn’t pick mine up last week I’d be all over it. Thinking of adding the 124270 SS. If you do this again and get one of those keep me in mind. Nice public service you’re doing.

Here’s mine.

Wow I would have thought that this would have been snatched up right away. Good for you on vetting potential buyers to ensure that they really want this piece.

Having recently purchased a submariner and getting ready to purchase a DJ for my wife, the only pieces that I would be interested in at this time would be the 126710BLNR on oyster and of course the 116500LN with either dial.

The BLNR is probably next on my list but will be some time before I actively try to find one unless it happens to fall into my lap at MSRP. A SS daytona would be preferred, but I don't think its realistic for me to try to find one of those at MSRP.

I think the two tone explorer looks amazing compared to the ss explorer. Rolex did a nice job with it.

Personally, I am of the belief that once the watch is sold, the buyer can do whatever he /she damn well pleases with it, chapped AD's behind or not. I, myself would never buy a watch to sell but that's me.

I've been waiting for two watches that have become discontinued. Frustrating. I'm interested in the new Explorer (all SS though), but I am not committed to it until I can try one on at the AD. If it doesn't sing I'm just going to go for a DJ and call it a day. Luckily I enjoy other brands too, so I'm not too worried.

That begs the question though... what stops an AD SA from personally buying a hot piece to flip it?

Hey vh2k!

I’m a long time member here, and you can see all my posts about the 42mm explorer being too big... the latest fail for me was I sold both my Offshore APs after owning for less than 2 months... cause? Too big!

Anyway, just throwing my hat into the game! But I’m already talking to my AD about this piece, I’m told December timeframe. I’m talking to my AD which is the Rolex AD in the Design District in Miami.

Most likely the prospect of unemployment :).

Also the fact that they’ll do better in the long run on the commissions from all the other jewelry they sell in to those looking to be “rewarded” with that call.

Many aren't allowed to buy the hot models, or perhaps 1 over their lifetime of working for the AD, and it'd be a big "IF" if they are allowed to buy a Daytona or something. You know you have a really good salesperson who probably has a good relationship with ownership if they are wearing a hot model.

My SA was wearing a Sub (not sure how hot that is), but that being said he no longer works there... doubt it was because he was flipping.

There are two pieces I want. The 124060 and the palm motif DJ 36. It would be so cool if we could all band together and do this on a large scale. Like a buyer's club. The AD still makes their sale, the state taxing authority gets their sales tax at time of sale, and we help each other out by passing on the piece at our net cost. Buyer even reimburses for the shipping of their choice. We can only dream!

So, I'm going to do something spontaneous, maybe risky, and possibly CRAZY!

I'm going to visit a few Rolex stores THIS WEEK and I'm going to buy the FIRST piece I'm offered -- no matter what it is! And, if I love it, I'm going to keep it. If I don't 100% love it, I will make it available to a TRFer who wants it. I'll pay it forward to a Rolex lover who really loves the piece.

I'm up for the challenge. Will I be offered anything at all? Will I end up with a Datejust with diamond bezel? Will I get a YG Daytona? Who knows? If it's a nice one, I'll snatch it away from the evil flippers and release into the TRF universe - the home of all pure and Rolex-worthy watch lovers.

Edit: If you have a dream watch, please be super specific.
A Beautiful Concept. I hope it works out.

Working on it. Still accepting PMs for those who are interested.

Ironically, more interest from dealers than TRF / Rolex lovers. And dealers are obviously offering a premium — as they understand the profit potential.

The only thing that stops them would be the risk of getting caught and getting fired.

If I'd not just purchased a silver dial OP41 I'd be all over it. It's a shame as I forgot to ask about it at the Boutique on Saturday.

If I understand this thread correctly, we have a member selling a hot piece at MSRP and there are still no takers after 4-5 days?!?!?! I guess there are more tire-kickers than buyers on here. Maybe that's why so many ADs end up selling to greys!

Time to flip it to a dealer so the watch can find a forever home with someone who pays what it's worth to them.

An ironic end to say the least.

I guess the TT Explorer is not as desired among TRF members as I thought it would be. I do hope to see more of this type of community giving/sharing though.
