That is just fantastic! What is the serial start with on your beautiful red?

It's not often we get to meet original owners. What is the story behind you finding, buying or receiving this 1680?

Do you still have the receipt and box?

Wow! Thank you for sharing 😊👍🏻

I received this watch from my parents for my high school graduation, May 23, 1974. I've worn it all but a short handful of days since. It's original price was $295, sold from Wagner's Jewelers in Amarillo, TX. The s/n is 222xxxx. It has been opened exactly twice; once in 1975 after an inadvertent drop onto a hard floor (no damage), and once in 1988 after a mild internal misting resulting from swimming with the crown loose. It is due for a cleaning and I'm working with a watch shop here in Houston to get that scheduled. He knows Reds. It was originally fitted with a folding link Oyster bracelet, which I replaced with a 93150 in 1981. I still have the box, outer box, original bracelet and the paperwork I received with it.

I originally posted pics of my recently acquired Mk.V (from Jacek) on pg.1 of this thread. Doesn't time fly? Since then its had a full service, crystal, seals etc and I've put an earlier fat font insert on it (a bit beaten up, but a lovely dark gunmetal colour), which just finishes it off IMO.

Anyway, here it is three years down the road, and still being worn in rotation with my grandad's old 30T2 and my fathers old Ed White Speedy.

Not nearly as nice as some of the incredible subs I've seen here, but here is my current daily wear that I'm really liking.

Thanks. I had read the article a while back. I was just confused as some higher serial numbers in this thread are Mark V's.

I need to get a digital camera so I can take a closer look, rather than taking pictures with my I-Phone 4

Any of these nice vintage Red Subs still glow? Amazing collection. I have seen one DRSD's tritium dial still glows green in the dark!

If your 6's in the "660ft" are fully closed then you have a mark VI.

Well upon closer look, I have determined that I have a Mark V
The first 6 on the depth rating is slightly open upon magnification and the "s" in submariner is flat. I guess I was misinformed. Thanks.
