Used Car Salesmen used to always say “You make the most money off of your family and friends.”

Why not just sell it to your family at the price you bought it?

That’s exactly how I feel. I could never make a profit off my relatives. I have a Yankee ticket season plan. I sell some games to my coworkers/friends at cost. Maybe I’m in the minority, however, I won’t feel right making a profit.

It's truly not up to us to judge. Everybody's mind works differently. Would I do things differently? Sure! However, I can't judge how someone else feels like is the right way to go about things. We don't know the dynamics of that relationship enough to judge it.

How do we know he even likes this family member? Maybe he sold it to his arrogant, a-hole brother in-law whom he can’t stand.

Hey man I think this is a really nice thing you did. I bet both your family member and the NHS appreciate it. And we in the public appreciate it too. Thank you for inspiring us all to do a little good. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Woof. This was a tough thread to read. I guess you all would have preferred he sold it to a stranger for Market price and used the proceeds for strippers and coke??
Good on you all for being so benevolent to your family members, but I don’t think OP deserves the bashing he’s gotten. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is the first post I’ve read, where someone admits to profiting off a family member.

Leave it off guys. Both parties agreed to the transaction.
Jealous that he has the BLNR and Hulk, was able to profit off the BLNR, and is cool enough to donate the profit to charity? |

An awesome kind gesture.
I would be happy to buy from my family member for current retail Price ! You made your family member happy and also donated to a great cause instead of profiteering from it which it seems most commentators, judging from their comments, would have preferred. And thank you for sharing that nice Arabic statement. |

His relative got the option to purchase it knowing that the difference between the old retail and new retail would be donated. I don’t see an issue with this at all, I rather believe that both parties were equally happy with this, especially knowing that the donation will be especially well received now in these tough times.

Some people have a problem even when it was a fair and open transaction. On top of it, its the OPs watch, he can do whatever with it, sell it for whatever price. Geez. Do we see other people sell sought after watches at retail? Highly unlikely. Take a break guys.

If everyone involved is happy then great, not that we really needed to know all the details (the OP could have spared himself the scrutiny).
At least it makes a change from people jumping online to proclaim that they're not wearing their Rolex due to C-19.

I think this was a great gesture. Family member got a great deal, and some money was donated.
Win win. |

To all those who are criticizing the OP for overcharging his family: imagine its a house rather than a watch... Would you sell your house to family/friends for what you paid for it decades ago, or perhaps at a discount from the current market value?
Again, well done OP

To be fair he actually sold the watch to his family member at a discount based on it's current market value. I imagine most people after that reference would be thrilled to get it at the price he sold it for. The person he sold it to could now sell it for a few grand profit (not that i'm suggesting they should/would) so he has effectively given them money rather than profited from them.

oh no.....just kidding, as long as the watch moves on to a happy owner
it happened twice on me with Panerai, bought each time but never bonded with it, end up selling each time.....no more Panerai the rest of my life |

If I'm honest I would never sell a watch to a relative or friend at retail if I could get twice as much for it. Maybe for millionaires that's a normal thing to do as it's pocket change, but for the rest that would be a huge deal. You wouldn't do the same thing with a house. I do give away iPhones or sell them for low prices to friends and family, but a watch that's worth 15k................. I don't think so |

I'm not sure why everyone that sells a watch gets bashed here.
Flippers are hated, yet everyone endorses the "trusted sellers". If all parties involved in the transaction are satisfied, what's the big deal? Tough crowd! |
