Never driven an auto. Wouldn't even know how to.

One more vote for the 14060M over the 124060.

In any event (movement wise) my 114060 would be a better bet.

Interesting and as the OP says it might be only human to look at the greener grass. I have been into collecting for more than 30 years and have found that while I appreciate the older watches and the classics I prefer the more modern versions of them. The newer Submariner is the evolution of a classic and it does have a better bracelet/movement/bezel/dial/lume, etc. depending how you measure the term "better". If you are into that sort of thing. Not to mention extended service times and warranty. Many newer owners/enthusiasts get into the romance of older watches/cars/whatever and it is a natural process and personal choice. I would see what it would cost to get my original watch back and with that information make a decision and then go with it. I would get it back or one like it and look at it as watch education. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I don’t disagree with your general evaluation of the modern versions but some changes may require a longer evaluation time?

I am happy with my 114060 choice but I am keeping an eye on the performance of my ‘19 DJ41.

This is true. The 3130 movements in the 14060M and the 114060 have been more accurate than the 3230 in the 124060 in all three watches I’ve owned.

I’ve got two GMT II’s both black dial-one gold/black bezel with 2 tone 18k bracelet (3185) and the other with oyster bracelet (3186) I will never give them up.
