Huge congrats, that's a beautiful piece. Appreciate hearing your sentiment and it seems valuable as a patient first time buyer. Wear it in good health!

Congratulations on your latest watch and all your watches. You have great self-esteem and it is heartening to see a nice polite gentleman get the watches he wants, without having to spend $$$ on stuff he doesn't want.

Perhaps, it is niceness that is required to get the high demand watches, not $$$. I'll have to spend (a long) time in front of the mirror learning how to smile.

First the basics. I got a text last Wednesday from my SA several hours after they had closed telling me my requested watch has arrived! He called the next day for payment and since I have moved out of state said they would ship it to me but not until Monday. It arrived this morning with two links removed at my request and all the “full kit” that people fret over. Also included was a Boutique gift, a branded pouch with a polishing cloth, a travel case, and a pen.
I first asked for this piece a few days after the October 2020 Trunk Show and was offered one just a few weeks later. At the time I had just made an unrelated big purchase so told him I needed to wait. Asked again before I left town in August so a little over a 6 month wait. I have known my SA for close to 25 years and have followed him as he moved through a couple other AD’s, he’s been with this one now close to 10 years.
The OP will be a fun addition to my rotation. The pop of color is pretty wild for normally reserved Rolex and I think they really underestimated how much they would be loved. And I have to add a few notes to rain on the common conspiracies:
Myth 1: “My dealer isn’t getting any watches.” If your US dealer is still a dealer, they are receiving inventory. My Boutique moves close to 300 watches a month. The shelves may look bare but that’s only because they are almost all presold.
Myth 2: “You have to spend $$$$$$ to get anything.” My store sells only Rolex watches. In the last 5 years I have asked for and received a BLNR, a BLRO, a black SS Daytona, and now this OP. I have never been asked to buy a PM or anything else for that matter. I asked for these four specific models and received them all after reasonable waits.
Myth 3: “AD’s sell all their watches to grey dealers out the back door.” Prove it. I hear this daily with nothing but hearsay to back it up. Very rarely someone is caught and it becomes public knowledge, very rarely. Any successful AD does anything necessary to keep the money making machine going. If an AD resorted to misdeeds, they are likely already about to lose their franchise.
Good myth: Relationships do matter. There is way more demand than there are watches these days, the stores and their SA’s have to come up with a system that pleases as many people as possible. Mixing existing customers with some new blood is a necessity. Here’s the clincher: I have known my SA a long time as noted. Yes I have bought probably 10 watches from him over 20+ years but more importantly I am always friendly, courteous, and never entitled. I consider him my friend, when I visit the store we talk watches but also other hobbies and parts of our lives. He told me the store manager likes me too because I also treat her with respect, courtesy, and a smile. He says the number of people coming in and getting ANGRY these days has become wearing and we all know here who he’s talking about. In a nutshell it’s good to have history these days and hard to be a new customer, but trust me being a decent human being is probably your best attribute to have. I can tell in a couple of posts here why some folks have no chance.
Sorry for being so long winded, go enjoy some life today!

Congrats! I have one and you will
enjoy!

Congrats! Last week I walked into an AD in tourist town with no purchase history looking for watch for my wife. Overheard salesperson telling the rude customers there are no inventory and display models are non-functioning. I was polite to the same salesperson and was taken to back room and offered two ladies SS pieces. Purchased both watches and salesperson said they get a lot of inventory and will be offering them to me. The experience and communication received from this AD rivals TRF trusted sellers which came as total shock.

Unfortunately, I am aware of this happening with an AD from an in person conversation with the owner of a large grey dealer in another state. He directly told me of the dealer that he was purchasing many of his Rolex watches from. A year and half after that conversation that AD lost their Rolex dealership. I can’t prove it but have no reason to believe the grey dealer was lying to me. I also have no desire to reveal the grey dealer that is still in business nor the AD.

I’m sure most AD’s are not doing this but to say none are I believe is a stretch unfortunately. It is probably the marginal AD’s that are resorting to this as most should be doing great in this current market.

That being said, congrats on the beautiful reference and having a great relationship with your AD. Enjoy!

That watch makes quite a statement!

Congrats on your new watch. I guess I'll have to move to NWA, wherever that is, if I want a new Rolex.

Congratulations, OP. Please let me tell you your experience is not representative of the vast majority of frustrating experiences we've come to suffer in the past couple of years, unless you're a VIP. Yes, there'll always be an exception to the rule, but let's keep expectations real for new comers.
