I did not get the vibe that my AD was going out of their way to get it for me but rather patek approved me over some other applicants so I received it.

I would also get the 5740 for that reason if I had the choice and equally liked both pieces. Not sure if the salmon dials stay en vogue and if I would like a salmon dial in the long run. Stunning pics of the 5270P here by nyc2la and other though.

Get the 5270 as that is the watch for your collection, don't be swayed by the $$$ of the hyped one.

What a great shout this is. What a pairing!! If you have to choose, I’d go 5270 despite me being a sports watch guy! The 5270P is different class. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I like the 5270P better and it's clearly a superior watch but if I wanted a 5740, I would get it first because the 5270P is not difficult to get and will likely be available at a discount in the near future.

Know someone whose 5270p arrived on Friday.
It's a stunning watch and if I had the funds I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up. |

Two AD's in my area both have one and both "offered" it to me. They are not hard to get in my experience. Very nice in person, way better than photos. But for that coin.... I dunno.

Naw Mr Pro Tour, I would only buy the 5270 if I really liked it and would expect to keep it a long time. The problem is, that if you tire of it and want to sell you will lose about 20 grand. If you go in knowing that, and still want it, fine. I would ask the AD if you don’t buy this one , will you still be next in line for the 5740? If he says yes , I would wait but know it will be probably a year before it arrives. For me I won’t buy any timepiece I can’t sell wholesale to a dealer and make money or at least get my money back. I buy them for long term but just the same , you never know what the future may bring. Just my 2 pennies worth. james in San Antonio :-)

Wall street was the last bastion of formal work attire but now even they have moved to casual wear. The dress watch is dead because, for virtually all people, today's work attire leaves no room for it. Guy's still want to show off a luxury timepiece but it has to be casual. Enter the SS craze... Even big changes to production numbers won't effect this trend much as demand will always shift to the harder to get pieces. We will see some burble in the numbers here and there but SS madness is here to stay for quite a while I think. |

5270G and 5270R is out of production now and still current prices for those watches are significantly below their last MSRP

I'll bet my sour socks that 5740 sits better on the wrist than the 5270.

although manual PCCs are very much in the DNA of patek i find them very inconvenient of not always worn. resetting them is no fun for me. 5740.....well, nice but not my fav nautilus. |

Chrono24 has one brand new 5270p for sale now around 156k. The seller has a shop in HK. I texted him. The price is unlikely to go any lower imo. If you afford this piece, I’m sure it is one great reference to your purchase history for your AD. You can always ask for a nice sport model watch any time later.

I don't know the situation in Hong Kong or rest of the world but in the UK ADs I deal with have had problems moving this watch. In the UK it is certainly not selling for a premium even brand new.

I love the 5270. However as someone who used to have a 5970 and is a bracelet watch guy I will say the following. One can admire an amazing piece like the 5270 but when it comes to owning one and wearing it it’s a different thing. I wore my 5970 like 4 times. I realized that my own taste and comfort is more satisfied by wearing a bracelet watch. I enjoy my 5726 Nautilus or even my Rolex SAS Exp II more than I ever did my 5970. That is why I got rid of it after having traded a ton of great bracelet watches to get it. If you love a sports watch and that is your thing then I would just wait for the 5740. You will wear it more and enjoy it more. The 5270 will end up sitting in your safe 90% of the time. It doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate it it just means that it’s something that doesn’t fit for you. Just my .02.

I passed on a 5270 a couple weeks ago. Gorgeous watch but not for me. 5740 would be my choice. If anyone is chasing the 5270 pm me.

So has anyone asked for a discount on 5270. Op If you want this piece, I would start at 10% or even 15% off. If they won’t do that , no deal. Again just what I would do if I was me . :-)

They aren't hard to get, Im sure dealers will play ball on them. If OP buys it, cannot understand why that would hurt his position for a 5740, likely help as you are moving a hard to move piece out of the store at a high ticket price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
