You technically could have only a gold sub, but I don’t think that would be a good look/appropriate for every occasion. Just my opinion.

Tried this one on this week at the AD. Not as heavy as I thought it would be. It felt great.

If I were to have just the one Rolex, that wouldn’t be it, no.

If you're ok with being a one watch guy.
I couldn't do it.

I would not be a one and done for a WG, or any PM watch, for that matter. Too much money for too little versatility and ability to wear in all situations for me. If you asked, is a SS Submariner a one and done, then I could easily say yes. Balancing cost, wear and metal the best way to go is SS. Obviously you can do or wear anything you want but you asked.

I had the all blue and while it is a great one, it just would not work for me as a one and done. The blue dial was too much at times. I now the current model and love it. It can wear in all situations, can pass for SS yet dress up too. It fits me more than the previous model. But to each their own.

There is no watch that is a one and done for me. In fact, one more will never even be enough. Not because I’m greedy or anything, I just really like this watch hobby, collecting, and wearing a nice watch and there will always be something else out there that interests me. Many will likely be forever unobtainable anyway.

This is a personality issue. In reality, any Rolex could be a one and done. They are very robust and versatile.

Not for me
Not that watch, not that material,
Not that one watch collection idea.

I’m in the 3 watch camp.
Two for daily wear variety,
One for more special , non daily wear

It could be...but it just depends on too many variables to justify a simple yes or no answer.

It very well can be. Got it 2 years ago as a daily beater and gets WAY more wrist time than my other Rolexes, APs and pateks. The other watches rarely come out of the vault now. It’s a great daily thats pretty under the radar for PM and works for almost every occasion.

Here is hiking Yosemite a few weeks ago. Wear it for every activity and has some scratches and dings but nothing more than my previous daily beaters.

It’s not a question that someone else can answer for you. We all have different likes and dislikes.

For me, the white gold sub gets more wrist time than anything else in my collection.

If I was forced to go down to one watch, it would be the wg sub for me.

(Just noticed my avatar is the old Smurf model. It was too loud for me and I sold it when I bought the new version)

The Smurf is on my hit list. I just have taken a few hits lately and need to reload.

But it's gonna happen. And no it's not a one and done.

I don't think the Smurf could be one and done but the one with just the blue bezel could possibly be.

I daily mine (). Sure, it can be a one and done. It scratches easier than a steel version but if you daily a Steel Sub and daily the White Gold they are going both going to show their wear.

It’s more blingy than a steel black Sub but if you could daily a Batman you can daily this watch. No one has a clue that’s it a gold watch, unless they are one of us. Even casual Rolex people don’t recognize it, as it’s just not one of the mainstream models.

As far as the weight, it doesn’t bother me. My friend, who also owned the same watch, couldn’t handle the weight and sold his. The glidelock is great to have and I think the base template of being a Sub makes it an excellent daily.

Idk what your wardrobe looks like but I wear a lot of blues so the color scheme goes well for me. I will warn you that the blue bezel isn’t subtle. It’s an in your face bright royal blue.

This…this forum has had so many posts over the years of members waiting years for “the grail,” only to look to acquire another shortly after getting the grail watch. There’s definitely a thrill of the hunt aspect to life. Only you can answer your question.

This is interesting - I happened to be able to try on a White Gold Sub yesterday and found the blue less intense than I thought from pics. The blue is really the question for me. I have other watches, so really think of next PM watch as a main watch. Does the blue make it too casual for all occasions. Other wg models could be better.... they're all great

Here’s a pic from today with me in the office. You can decide for yourself if you think that’s subtle. It goes well with most colors. I’d say green is probably where it would clash but I have an IWC Aqua that is made to wear with greens so I have that covered. Considering most of us guys wear blue, black, white, and grey a lot I don’t see it as an issue because it goes well with those colors.

It’s not as versatile as black or white but for a color it’s pretty versatile.

it's difficult

One and done is a mindset... and I believe mindset changes with age, experience, and time. So, "one and done" will be different at 23 and poor versus 57 and Um... Not so poor anymore? OR -even retired and rich! See what I mean? Either way, I love my WG sub and wear it often, but when I change gears and put on my Pepsi, I get excited again. Then a week later strap on the Kermit, I remember how much I like 5 digit watches. And to kink the mindset, I will put on my tri-color Zenith El Primero !!! What a great watch! So, there is no good answer to this question, SO, the real answer may be a moving target over time. But, here is a pic of my gold sub anyway. Enjoy!
