Not too excited about most Tudors but the FXD seems like it’d be awesome. Love the look.

Which of the two straps is used most on the FXD? Any aftermarket straps work well?

Would love a blue FXD, throw on a custom MN strap, and Bob's your uncle!

Yes all variants are decent looking and the size is a non-issue for me..... BUT, I don't like Grade 2 titanium as IME it's a very scratch-happy metal, and secondly I really don't like NATOs. Of all the watches I own, and have owned in the past (and that's quite a few!), I've only ever bought one watch on a NATO, and that was swapped out for a "proper" strap after about 5 mins.

Like many other posts here, I’ve been tempted several times but haven’t pulled the trigger. It wears big on me, but not too big so perhaps I will eventually grab one.
Right now I’m on the sidelines |

The Pelagos specifically the FXD is one of the few Tudors that have 100% of its own DNA and isn't trying to be a 4 or 5 digit Rolex.

If I did not have a BB58 in blue I would get the FXD in blue. Great watch with a lot of history to it which I love. I plan on picking up the black FXD down the line. Its a very comfortable watch and the fixed lugs make it bombproof.
DO NOT judge it based upon the factory velcro strap. Its not the best fitting (especially if you have smaller wrists like me). The factory hybrid rubber strap is MUCH better (ask the AD to try it on that) and there are other awesome options like Ericas MN strap. FXD is very unique and great addition to any collection - TOOLTASTIC!

I love mine- the Erica MN straps are fun and easy to swap out, but I also have a few single pass NATO from Crown and Buckle. The velcro on the OEM one started peeling on mine, and the AD got me a new one no issues.
Not a fan of the rubber that comes with it. Weird fit and feel. Go for it! |

I didn't expect to love it, but haven't taken it off since buying it months ago.
It's light, you don't even realize it's there. Light enough to mountain bike with, and not have it banging against your wrist. The dial is super legible with that touch of red lettering. (mine is the black version) I like it on a NATO with brushed hardware Lume is incredible! Great for situations where you don't want the recognition of a Rolex |

An interesting point was brought up. Is the FXD case scratch prone? I am very easy on my watches.
Also really like some of the Crown and Buckle straps. Tons of options, textures, and colors. |

I don't notice one scratch, and I wear it all the time. I did put a big ding on the case while working on a car the other day, though. Bummer, but nothing I can do about it. I'm sure a SS case would have the same ding.

No scratches on mine yet. And I'm much less concerned about protecting it when I wear it then say my Sub. I think the brushed finish helps. But I have seen plenty of scratched up Pelagos before so I'm sure the FXD would be similar.
My new favorite strap is the Maratac Ti "Mil Series". Nice black woven strap that is different from their Zulu fabric, sewn fabric loop keeper, and a Ti nato style buckle. It's very long but the fabric keeps holds the tucked under excess well. |

The only thing scratched on my 42mm blue Pelagos is the stainless steel clasp. I would bet the armchair metallurgists couldn't tell the difference between 2 & 5 if it bit them on their keister.

On scratches....
I have worn the heck out of mine for the last six months and have noticed only one minor scratch and even this is barely noticeable. This is after building fences and woodworking projects where I am always knocking into other hard surfaces. In fact, this is a reason I bought it as my Sub looked like it got dragged behind a car three weeks after a service polish. I have ZERO issues with grade II titanium. It may scratch slightly easier but a titanium brush tool easily masks them (if this is even needed) and then the natural oxidation process minimizes the bright edges of the remaining marks so that they are barely noticeable. A ding is a ding, however, on any watch. Honestly, I have had three ti watches before this and every single one wore better and hid scratches better than any stainless watch I have owned. Sure, grade 5 may be technically better for wear, but it comes with a different look and a much higher price tag.

Perhaps another POV someone could enlighten me with..
Has anyone actually bought the FXD and regretted it? |

One thing to keep in mind about any single pass NATO straps is that the thinner materials (like the 1.0 mm Perlon) tend to slide too easily through the lugs on the FXD so that the watch head has actually slid off the strap on one occasion as I was putting it on. Fortunately, I was standing over my bed at the time. I would HIGHLY recommend a strap at least 1.3mm thick like their Chevron fabric.

Have the Red Bull version and it's one of my favorites. I would definitely recommend it.

two factors to consider 1) the size. Either you like the size and thickness or not. 2) the commitment to the strap vs a bracelet. The straps may be worn in water but can develop a mildew Odor. the watch is durable, legible and a solid design. The balance and proportions are precise.

I need a date function, so it's a nay for me. The original Pelagos would possibly be of interest to me.

I love the FXD. It's an incredible (and real) modern take on the MilSubs of the past.
But one thing that bugs me with Pelagos models is that the original (both ETA and in-house) has the most technologically advanced bracelet Rolex has ever made... and this bracelet tech seems to have been pretty much abandoned and forgotten. Really unfortunate, to me. I get why the 39 doesn't have a HEV or 500m WR, but just giving it bog standard T-fit makes me fear the Pelagos bracelet will cease to exist the moment the 42 is refreshed. |

Well maybe Tudor use a "special" G2 then.
What I can say is that I've owned two Grade 2 titanium Breitlings, a G2 Oris, a couple of G2 Citizens, and a Grade 5 JLC, and the only ones I didn't get any noticeable scratches on were the Citizens as they were surface hardened, and the G5 JLC. Maybe I was just unlucky with the others (or particularly lucky with the Citizens and JLC), but either way I'm just telling it from my personal experience. And for that reason I personally avoid G2 ti watches.

that one. My Seamster still did better than my Sub but it was more noticeable than the cheap Citizen. The FXD so far seems to be closer to the Citizen but I have not heard of Tudor doing any such treatment to the FXD. That being said, a G5 would be in my future if I can afford the price tag.

Britt Pearce just did a good review on it. Nice to see on her husband's 7" wrist and then on her 5.5" wrist. It looks like with wrapped lugs it fits smaller than it would seem.

I got my blue pelagos in 2017, it is a great watch. But if the FXD had been around I would have probably gone that way I think its a great looking watch and very comfortable. I still might get one.
