A 1977 DRSD must be right at the end of the production run before the Great White. I'm curious, can you share the beginning of the serial number? I have an early GW SD.
As for the topic, if the watch is properly serviced, why not? You're taking a risk, but you could say the same when using any vintage item. I'd have no problem driving a vintage 911 without worrying if I'd wrap it around a tree, as long as it was properly serviced. I swim with my SD and have never had a problem. Here's an underwater shot. |

Wearing a high-dollar collector watch scuba diving makes as much sense to me as driving my 1966 Shelby on the race track before I sold it a couple years ago. Didn't happen!

Everyone has their own idea of what makes sense. Some people will see nothing wrong in wearing a serviced and pressure-tested diver's watch while swimming (there's a concept), while some won't. By the same token, some people will happily follow a dog around a park with a plastic bag and pick up its poop (and pay considerably for the privilege), while to others that doesn't make any sense whatsoever!

Second update racing again this evening. Setting the boat up and I put my hand down my waterproofs to get to my inside pockets and I catch my watch don't think anything of it, I look down at and................no bezel. All I could say was SHIT, I take my waterproofs off no sign of it I take my boots off and in my right boot is the "O" Spring.
Well ranting and raving for fifteen minutes still no sign. I am now think it is at the bottom of the sea the crew think I'm mental ( at this stage I was). I'm now thinking I need to buy a great white just to get a bezel (don't know why😫) I then look at my dory (support boat ) that was along side my race boat and to my amazement yep you guessed it it was just laying there in the dory. I said a quick thank you to the gods that be and decide never to go sailing with my double red again. So yes a lot of your comments I should have listened too, my crew wanted to call the Air Sea Rescue as they thought I was going to have a heart attack!!! it was a crazy evening but at least the watch is whole again and we won the race. So all is back to normal in my world. 😀 I thought I should share the crazy experience with you all as it was so unbelievable. |
