I like the EXP2, but really, any of the above suggestions work.

Explorer II would be middle earth. Surface of the earth is Daytona.

Let me try to through some light on the subject. Seriously, the OP (specially appointed) was the first to climb Mt. Everest. The Explorer was released in honor of the accomplishment. I think Rolex blurred the lines with the newest Air King using the Bloodhound dials which belong to a vehicle used for land speed record racing. So though not used for airflight the Air King is now a land watch. Clearly Daytona is oriented towards auto racing but would have equal use in racing on the brine. Did I mention that Daytona is by the ocean and I've raced there on the ocean but never on land; a Daytona would be great for timing starts in a regatta. I guess that leaves the air category with the GMTs having been created for pilots. Most of the prior Air Kings have been renamed OPs so that means that the OP is clearly a choice for air. The Explorer II is mean for underground spelunking which could also be beneath the ocean and although under the land is not on the land. For sea the dive watches include the YM all come to mind although many question the heredity of the YM and think of it more as tennis court jewelry so is it a land watch or a sea watch? The YMII has definitely got the chops as a Sea watch but is used frequently as a cooking aid (as is the Daytona, Sub, and Sea Dwellers. That makes them appropriate for the land category. I think the whole thing is very unsettling. I guess I'll just wear what I want wen I want and where I want. They all serve their purposes as watches in any situation. HAGDE.

I agree. The Explorer is essentially a field watch and the Explorer II is more of a hard core Explorer/field watch. To me a Daytona is a racing watch. It works for land technically, but the Explorers are the ultimate land watches. High legibility is a big plus too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Based on numbers sold, it is the DJ36. Nothing else comes close.

What is the definitive Rolex "Land" Watch?
Quote:
I really like this thread, was just reading about someone talking about bloody stickers I’ve had an Explorer II previously and currently have an Explorer I now. My answer: If I was actually going on some post-apocalyptic survival mission that needed a ridiculously tough and legible tool I’d go for a 226570 Explorer II (the SAS chose it so why wouldn’t I). For everyday use I’d stick with my 124270 Explorer I; it is so comfortable, versatile and built like a tank. Daytonas are stunning, an absolute masterpiece but are specific to Motorsport not Hiking, Climbing, Mountaineering etc so not ‘Land’ for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

No kidding on the stickers! I’m an Explorer/Explorer II fan. They are just the best. I had black Explorer II/Explorer mk1, then black Explorer II/Explorer mk2, and now Explorer 36 steel/Explorer 36 two tone. Next on the list for the new polar Explorer II. I can’t wait! I’ve never owned the polar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think that Explorer 1 is the ultimate Land watch but a picture is worth 1000 words so here are 2 of them...

You won’t be disappointed. I heard in a couple of places that it might go back to a 40mm case; if they do I’ll be in the market, I absolutely loved mine but it was massive!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Some collectors go after “land, air, sea” while others think pretty much the same, but call them, “diver, GMT, chrono”. Sea is clearly the diver. GMT is air, so land is chrono, thus Daytona.

DJ36; specifically, the Turn-O-Graph with its interval timer bezel.
