Do I think 16710 is worth the €6000 price tag that the market seems to demand for them at the moment — even for a beat-up T<25 tritium model? Absolutely not.

Reading this great review for the 1st time in 2020 and this specific part hurts

Oh yes. The prices have gotten crazy. I think there might even be a bubble now. I wouldn't use that world lightly with Rolex but 16710 production numbers are very high.

I don't mind the prices increasing but on the other hand I don't get any benefit from it, either. Not going to sell mine anyway. Cheers.

Actually I prefer the 16710 with your bezel font (Sans Serif). I've always wondered why some bezels have that font and some don't. I guess it's the same kind of mystery as the dial print differences.

Does anyone know if it's related to some serials or some specific production era, like 1999, 2000 or 2001 models?

Juho, I bought the watch pre-owned from Bernard Watch in Austin, Texas, and the previous owner had swapped the original black bezel insert for the aftermarket BLRO insert in the photo. The original Rolex black insert was included along with the box and papers. Personally, I don't have a problem with aftermarket inserts. In fact, I recently bought an aftermarket ceramic BLRO insert that I ground down a fraction of a millimeter to fit the stock 16710 stainless steel bezel ring. Here's a photo:

Whoa, that's a trip. Would have thought it was a Photoshop if not for your description. The modern bezel look without the hideous case isn't too bad...

Well that certainly looks interesting. I'm not sure if I like the bezel insert over the original but at least it's different.

Juho, I completely understand it's not for everyone. The main reason I like the aftermarket ceramic insert is that it doesn't scratch nearly as easily as the anodized aluminum inserts, so IMHO the ceramic is both more practical and more aesthetically pleasing.

Perhaps heresy, but IMHO the 16710 has a number of advantages over the 6-digits GMTs that for some justify the high prices.

For example there's the ability to easily change bezel inserts and bracelets, the reliability and accuracy of the 3185 movement compared to timekeeping problems with a substantial percentage of 3285s, and the granularity of 120 click bezels versus the 24 click bezels of the 6-digits.

Yes 16710 is kind of a "three watches in one". You can't beat that.

If you have only one Rolex, the black bezel version would probably be my choice. But since I own a Sub 16610 and SD 16600 I never even considered it.

Pepsi is my favorite but I've tried it with red/black too.
