i think they did a good job. of course it is not a daytona. but they did a really smart marketing effort and pushed it out nicely. the movement is very nice.

with this and the new speedmaster i am beginning to think Rolex (and Tudor) is falling behind in terms of timing of releases. even PP basically announced a new watch by DCing their 5711.

of course it won't effect Rolex and Rolex does not react but his marriage to watch fairs is a play that will end sooner than later (virtually or not).

Street value of $6k vs $29k. A movement so well regarded that actually Rolex used them for a long time. Added date function. While it will never dethrone a Daytona because of hype and longevity it is a far superior watch per $. No doubt, no debate hands down better.

Flame on but you know it’s true. Can’t even compare the 2 from a value perspective.

i think the new movement is probably the best. of course how will it last with the setup for the chrono hand running at a blistering speed? time will tell.

I'd get this new Zenith - but it's USD $10,00 and sold out on their website.

My local Rolex AD hasn't had one Daytona - even at typical MSRP USD $13,100 - either.

So. Meh.

Slinks away and get's a G-Shock.

it's most certainly a MUCH better timepiece... but the daytona is more than a timepiece.

Currently, Zenith is doing things right... I hope they keep on going with what they have done over the last couple years.

The black one is in stock with free shipping. I'd have to see in person to decide. I'm leaning toward black dial at the moment but need to see how matte it is. I strongly dislike Rolex matte dials.

MSRP is $10k, I doubt that you can get it for $6k anywhere in the US.

If it's really $6k, I bet it will sell like a hotcakes.

I would go for the white dial.

If they can out produce Rolex then many on the Daytona wait list might get one.

On the “fit for purpose” front, they are quite different in racing.

New Zenith is better for events less than an hour and/or qualifying laps. That is, if one is fast enough to trigger the pusher properly at the beginning of a lap and at its completion. Human error could make a lap time off by as much as 2/10’s. Nice new complication using the bezel - better than a fairly useless tachymeter scale.

Daytona is better for enduro’s up to 24 hours but is worthless during qually. Simple single purpose chrono. Misses the boat on running splits.

Both are nice watches, though.

Cool watch for sure. Hype will die down soon though and daytona wont blink. Im definitely a buyer of white zenith.

It is definitely inspired by the Daytona and trying to capitalize on the current frenzy. At the same time, it’s different enough to justify owning one if someone is looking for a modern automatic chrono. I wish the case was a bit more svelte, especially around the lugs. And the movement, while technically superb, can use some better finishing. Or cover it up. It is one of the more interestingly designed automatic caliber, showing much of the gear train. The chrono allows 1/10th second timing with an interesting bezel. Very nice...

I like the Zenith. It does look like the Daytona. But I have a feeling the Zenith is obtainable.

On paper, I think the Zenith is a more interesting watch. I think the different colored and overlapping subdials are pretty cool, but I guess that's a matter of personal preference. I like the date at 4:30, but I guess I'm used to it as I own an AP chrono. Again, personal preference in terms of placement, but I think the complication is a plus.

Also, movement wise, you have a high-beat escapement. You lose the hour subdial, but I'd rather have the 1/10 center seconds as you don't see that in a chronograph everyday.

100M water resistance without having to deal with screw-down pushers is a huge win.

I think there's enough there for this El Primero to stand on its own. Plus, it is "El Primero", meaning the first automatic chronograph movement, so there's history there too.

I think this model is going to sell well. It has superior movement than Daytona. It’s iconic (no one can argue that), It’s more available, and now it looks appealing, not because it looks like the Daytona, but simply the contrast of white dial and black ceramic bezel is striking. I also like the subdials more than Daytona.

Thanks, when the honeymoon is over, I will get one if it is down to $6k.

I have both 116500LN white dial and 116508 green dial but I still think this Zenith looks good too.

Me too...I may be in the minority here, but I'm pretty sure I'll prefer this to the Daytona (I'll save judgement for when I see it in the metal in a few weeks).

Same here but the thickness might be considerably more than the Daytona. Daytona is one sleek little piece.

You may have inadvertently forgotten to mention the display caseback showing off that stunning movement.

I have to say the Zenith is a great looking watch, certainly worthy of consideration as an alternative to the 3861 Speedy I have my eye on.

I ordered the white dial. Wanted it the minute I saw it. I get that some see the Daytona homage, but I’ve never had any interest in the Rolex regardless of the price. For me, the zenith is the better looking and more interesting piece. I just hope the bracelet is ballpark with the oyster. Can’t go wrong with either.

I totally agree with you. I ordered the white dial on the blue strap last week. Can’t wait for it to be delivered.

I want to love it but I’ve now seen several videos where the 1/10 hand jumps back when the pusher is actioned.
