interested in your camera gear setup and how you shot much of the photos in the review. Lens / gear etc. great review I love my Sub (bought from an AD in 2004) and it is so classic. It now needs to share time with my new PANDS 116500LN but the Sub has served me well for years - in to Rolex every 6 or when I break something on the inside. Nice pics and write up BTW.

I use pretty old Nikon DX80 with Nikkor AFS 18-200 Nikkor objective. It's a good combo but getting the actual light setup is much more important than the camera. Cheers!

Yes out of the 15 Rolex watches I've owned the 16610 Sub is easily my favorite.

Great review Juho! It's funny, but I've owned perhaps ten various versions of the Submariner, have a couple of 5513's, a 16600, and a 114060 now, but I've never had a 16610. It really is a modern classic that tends to get overlooked by collectors because it was such a ubiquitous model for so long. At some point I need to add one to my collection. It's nice to see a post about watches instead of watch markets!

Maybe some people think it's too common. But hey, there is a reason why it is so common. It's generally loved and in most people it's synonymous with Rolex (along with the TT DJ).

Very nice review. This is my favourite Rolex and mine is from 1985. I much prefer the slim and elegant look of the older versions to the chunkier more recent ones. Personal preference though!

There's just something about the old case shape. Those "spiky" crown guards and slender hips.

The new ones are good looking watches too. But they lost something in the transition, imho. The lugs and crown guards remind me a bit of my Breitling Steelfish Superocean.
