Could be money laundering, in which case let’s hope they get caught eventually.

Could be dealers playing a game to drive up prices and hype, in which case let’s be a bit irritated but not surprised.

Could be a really wealthy person, in which case good luck to them, I wish I was wealthy enough not to care. And let’s face it, some people pay that much and more for a flight on a Private Jet, so let’s keep things in perspective, some people earn more than that in the time it would have taken them to arrange a purchase on C24!!

Gotta clean the money somehow. No relatively smart person would pay that for a stainless steel hulk, a modern reference at that.

There has to be something I don’t understand with these auction sales. Some economic advantages that I’m unfamiliar with, possibly tax right-off benefits or some other mysterious upside that justifies these absurd sales of contemporary mass produced items selling for twice the already absurd grey prices.

Can anyone enlighten me on tax code advantages or other quirky exclusively auction derived benefits to camouflage capital?

Doubtful anyone that needs to launder money is doing it with a $50K watch. Probably just a rich buyer who wanted to buy it from a source they were familiar with vs a seller unknown to them on the internet.

Hooray for flexing on the internet to strangers! Maybe I should give it a try, does it make you feel neat and powerful?

That's right. They can get gold coins for 3 or 4 percent.

I don’t get it. It’s the green version of a ~$8000 watch. With a hideous maxi case.

Crazy I know but for a discontinued model at 30K it remains a bargin in this crazy market.

I guess during COVID people must have saved a lot.

Sometimes auctions can cause prices to go crazy so this is not expected to be the regular 'normal' price.

Yes especially when the auction is competitive, most people wants to get it at all cost.

It's the most out there modern SS Submariner. And it's beautiful.

I'm a little surprised to see it exceed the 25K mark this soon, but ultimately, it should not be priced any lower than any current in production SS sports watch.

Just egotistic millionaires/billionaires that can say they paid XXXXXXX much on this piece at auction, I would never take prices at Sothbys/Christies/Phillips as the market price for non unique pieces.

It could be that since the Hulk was released, global central banks have FLOODED the world with tr€££ion$ of their currency product. As the currency product values have greatly decreased, those closest to the currency product release receive the greatest benefit. Have you seen the price of gas since the Hulk was released?

Btw, yes the mkt has lost its mind, yet headlines keep the PR flow going for auction houses.

Most of the wealthy people I've known have not been the types to brag about overspending. In fact, they are just the opposite. They usually brag about the great deal they got because of some connection that have with some individual who knows the ropes of a certain industry.

It's the knuckleheads who fell bass-ackwards into money who brag about how much money they wasted on some gaudy piece no one with money would be caught dead wearing or owning.
