Pre-cyclops SeaDweller or new model?

IMO, cyclops on a SD goes against everything that made it a SD.

I have a G63. It has remained pretty much unchanged for 40 years. But, there is a 'new' design coming out soon.

To G purists. It is not a G anymore.

Just like a cyclops on a SeaDweller isn't a SeaDweller to me anymore.

Exactly how I feel. I love a good cyclops and I am very intrigued to see how big it wears in reality. That said (no matter how nice it is on the wrist) having three Subs already, the SD50 will have to wait until I have scratched a few 'non diver' itches!

Everything from 1665 to 116600, 116660 included, but never a Cyclope Sea Dweller, isn't a SD to me

Actually the release of the new 126600 was the trigger for me to buy one of the last available 116600.

Originally I had scheduled to buy the 116600 in 2018 or 2019, but with the watch disappearing rapidly from the market and with prices increasing crazily (at least here in Europe) I had to advance and take action now.

Very happy with the watch (slim but significant case, 40mm, satin dial, date function and no cyclops), very comfortable and I'm wearing it mostly every day.

I had a DSSD, D-Blue and loved it except for two things: It was a little thick and it didn't have a cyclops. The new Sea-Dweller may be perfect for me.

I have a DSSD, D-Blue and wish there was no date. The time and bezel are all that I use (timing a steak now as a matter of fact). If I used the date function, I'd want the cyclops. As others have said, you need to try the SD43 on. My wrist size would lead me to the SD43 despite the cyclops. It all depends on your eye sight and wrist size.

I like the DSSD because it has no cyclops, AND at the same time I like the new SD because it HAS a cyclops. Go figure

In my opinion the SD50 has too many changes in comparisson to the SD4K and all the other previous models from the SD line up. By that I mean the size increase and the added cyclops. If it would have been just one of those two, both not an improvement perse for me, I would have been more interested. Now it's just to much a different watch. I love the red lettering and the new movement though.
But for me it would have been better if they had added a more similar looking SD model with for example a different dial or made of another material. Just like the great line ups they have for GMT models and the Submariner models. If you're a fan of those model you can own a couple of them with different all looks. Would have been so cool to have a 6 digit SD model made in PM or with a dual colored bezel.
So long story short, although I am curious to see the SD50 in a shop, I will keep my 116600.

I agree with some of the precious comments: for me, SD4k is the last aesthetically well balanced diver, directly inherited from the 5digits series. When you look at it, from above or from the side, it is as well balanced as a 16610.
Neither the new sub with its fat lugs, neither the SD43 with its relatively poorly balanced "dial size / watch face" ratio, gets for me this " wow factor ".

I find it amusing that SD was always somewhat the backseat model to the Sub.

At the moment, there seems to be a massive buzz around how the old model was a gem. Of which I agree.

Perhaps the new SD50 will make the SD nearly as popular as the Sub. That's my guess on Rolex's marketing plan.

I think Rolex jumped into the 'large' watch extreme spec format with the DS due to public demand that was very present at the time of the DS creation and release. Which didn't make sense for Rolex as they are usually not known for bending too much to consumer pressure.

The DS was even less popular than the SD (which was never a big seller) until the Cameron dial came out. My opinion was Rolex always was able to associate a certain model with a certain purpose. So, to be a part of the Cameron dive, Rolex now had a reason to have the DeepSea a true DeepSea. Genius!

At present, it's tough to find a DS regardless of dial. I saw a blue dial SD the other day that was for sale when purchased along other Rolex watches. And I have read that people who want to acquire a DS blue will be on a very very long waiting list.

The DS appears to be gaining semi cult status similar but to a lesser degree to a SS Daytona. I wouldn't be surprised as well that there is currently a real world surge to snatch up old SD's.

16600 for me... I'm not a fan of the fully indexed bezel on the SD4K or the 43mm model, and the dial looks a little crowded with the larger hour markers on the 4K... Like some others, 43mm would be too large for my liking... I've been accustomed to 40mm for a long time, & I don't think that I would like anything larger.
