Bought one in 2014 and foolishly sold it. I regret it. Best SD ever! Congrats!

I wonder if I would have done the trade if I had the 12…or 13…Deepsea.

Was this deal a straight trade or did you add money? How much was the Sd4k if you don’t mind me asking and what year did you pick up?
Not a straight trade, I took a bath on the DeepSea, but it ended up being approximately a wash overall on my Rolex dive watch journey (if you don't count me stupidly passing up on a SD4K at a discount in 2014, that would have been the smartest move in hindsight but who knew it was going to be a 3 year run). I originally purchased a 126660 DSSD on vacation in Hawaii in 2018, went to pick it up the next day and kind of got cold feet on it overnight and took home a 116610LN Submariner instead. I regretted that 6 months later and traded it back for the DeepSea. That trade experience was great, the Submariner was valued over MSRP and the black DeepSea quite a bit under MSRP, I ended up about 2000 ahead of MSRP vs MSRP if I had taken home the DeepSea that day in Hawaii, so no regrets there.

Trading the DeepSea for the SD4K, not such a great experience! Drawn out over almost a year, I scrapped the idea several times. I get it, not a hugely desirable watch to trade, declining market, etc. I got completely blown off by several sellers, politely declined by some, and those that did offer a deal just didn't make sense to pursue, we were talking 5-8k over the trade in on the DeepSea for a SD4K. I decided just to keep it and buy another watch for that price, I didn't dislike the DeepSea and wasn't hurting to trade it at all, it just wasn't getting worn all that much. I was shopping for 16600s and was waiting for a 124060 from the AD, either would have been a killer daily wear watch and save the DeepSea for when I felt like it.

As sacrilegious as this will probably be here, I'll still tell it, don't ban me. I did a dry run on the idea. I had a Ginault built as close as possible to a SD4K, waited 3 months for it, and then wore the damn thing nearly every day after I got it. I'd pick it up to wear over both the Pelagos and DSSD, so I knew it was time for the SD4K and it had a real shot at making me a one watch guy.

So back to the trades, it made sense two places: 1916 Company (Watchbox) was awesome to deal with, the difference between trade and sell price was lower than any of the trusted sellers on here that were interested in a deal, they were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and all their watches were CPO with a 2 year Rolex warranty. Very awesome. The other place I was a little hesitant with, SwissWatchExpo. Very...different experience, very direct, zero negotiation, but great prices on both ends. The salesman actually walked me through their production facility on Facetime and it was impressive. All their watches are "serviced" with their own in house warranty, but for the price difference between them and 1916 I could sent it to RSC twice myself and get the two year Rolex warranty that way, so I ran with it. All in all, long story long, I put out just over 3k on the deal, even that out with the Sub to DSSD trade and I've played with Rolex divers for almost 7 years and put about an extra thousand into it.

I could call this the “killer angle” since it has moved two watches now. I hated the fat lug to bracelet transition on the 116610ln, mildly displeased with the 126660 thickness from this angle, and the 116600 seems like a happy medium between the two.

I traded a 14060m in on an SD4K a couple of months ago at 1916, they gave me 60% over what I paid for it eight years ago which was a very nice offset against the CPO price, plus a chunk of cash. I kept my Mk 1 DSSD so now I have a pair of Sea-Dwellers but it’s the SD4K that I reach for most often. We’ll see if that settles down.

Very well done, OP.

Most people will just think it’s a sub. But, to those who know and value the subtitle details it is so much more. Congrats on a truly great watch.

Congrats, I think it is the best looking dive watch out there.

I bought an SD4K for my father a few years back but he never wore it (ever) and sadly it's too small for my 7.5" flat wrist so I think I'll be selling it.

It's in near mint condition too, I'm bummed.

In what way is it too small? Doesn’t it have the glidelock extension?

Easily the most legible professional watch I’ve owned (amongst multiple Explorers, Subs and GMT’s). Something about the matte dial I suppose. Congrats OP
