I think of the minute repeaters with enamel dial and Breguet numerals, in white gold.

I think of the PCC in rose gold with a black dial

3940 mmmmaybe the 5110. If you decide PP, the 3940 is a true classic.

For me, it was the Calatrava 5227R. I saw one at my AD in 2017 and promised myself one day I would get one. Unfortunately that AD lost Patek status couple years ago. But luckily I was able to build a relationship with a new AD and received it last year. Good luck.

Salmon dial 5270p doesn’t get any better for me .. I’m not fussed on a nautilus or an aquanaut, of course I’d love one but they are not as special to me ..

Great thing about patek is the variety

Different case shapes
Different movements
Different complications often vastly so.

Nautilus is a watch that can directly compete with the common Rolex solid watch and reliable movement. Arguably more comfortable. Obviously at a different price point but that is relevant to the individual. Maybe Just as the Timex guy would view the Rolex guy

The perpetual calendar 3940/5140/5940 are also a significant watch in their line up, ultra thin and clean design. Like many of their models It has bit around for decades with subtle changes. (Similar to Rolex line up).

The calatrava is an understated dress watch as good as any.

The aquanaut can also go anywhere and do anything.

Then of course we have the perpetual calendar chronograph and beyond, incredible accomplishments

As far as choosing it just because it says Patek, I don’t think that is giving enough credit to the members here. Many of us obsess over the details and the history. The independent manufacturer that stands behind their watches and has done so for nearly two centuries.

There really is little competition.

The only negative i see is the hype for certain models that makes them outsized targets for thieves

With tons of Rolex Sport watches, my desire for a classic, simple dress watch grew. And there was only one answer for me: The timelessly beautiful Patek 5227 j! Simplicity, elegance and the dreamlike hunter case back!

Well said! For me I chose the 5396 as my first since it just optimized Patek for me…

With Rolex: The DD40 is the flagship, and submariner arguably the most popular.

With Patek: I would argue PCC are the flagship, and the 5711/5167 arguably the most popular.

Harder to say with Patek though as so much variety in their offerings.

Patek question for Rolex guys

I think Classic - the Calatrava

But one day - maybe one day - I'll become complicated.
And when that day comes... this:

Patek question for Rolex guys

5170g. I absolutely love it, and all PP manual chronographs.

IMO, the flagship PP is any iteration of PCC.

This.

It’s a classic, you get the beautiful movement from the manual chrono with all the finishing.

A local AD had one for a time not long ago. Amazing case. Amazing watch. It would fit my lifestyle as a one watch collection.
